Election 2012: But what about the Congress?

All the attention is focused on Obama vs Romney.
But what about the House and the Senate? Even if Obama wins, will he have enough congressional seats to move the country forward?

Ramesh Ponnuru is generally a nitwit, but this article is on target:

If the president believes anything like this would happen in his second term, he is kidding himself. If Obama wins re-election, the Republican Party will react by moving right, not left. It will become less likely to compromise with Obama, not more.

If Obama wins, he will almost certainly win with a smaller majority of the vote than he got in 2008.... Republicans will almost certainly add to their ranks in the Senate, and may take a majority. No way would they see this set of election results as a “decisive” statement of support for Obama’s views....

More Gridlock

The Republicans aren’t going to change. Judging from the interview, neither will the president....

1. Yes, that is what concerns many of us.

That even though the President won't be facing re-election, the obstructionists won't relent on hurting the rest of us out of spite. If the Republicans weren't so batshit crazy it might be tempting to pay the ransom. But there is no way that anyone with a conscience could vote for these people regardless of the reward offered. We need to work hard to keep the Senate and do whatever we can to make gains in the house. It sucks to think we're going to have four more years like the last two. I don't think I can survive it. But I'd rather starve to death than elect a crumb like Romney.

More obstruction. More "party of 'Hell, No.'" More trying to deny Obama and the Democrats any accomplishment, even if it is to the benefit of the nation. These assholes will literally punk themselves into electoral oblivion to try to hurt Obama's presidency. If we don't obliterate them this year, we absolutely MUST do it in 2014!

A primary goal for the post-election season needs to be a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United, and to get a handle on the big-money campaign- and election-buying. This has got to stop! I honestly believe that if we don't accomplish this within the next preisdential cycle, our democracy will be virtually doomed. it will be a democracy in name only; government "of the people, by the people, FOR the people" will become government "of the millionaires, by the millionaires, FOR the millionaires"! Of course, the GOP will fight this tooth and nail, because the money is their only hope for holding onto power. We have got to take the fight to the people, and win it!

4. Try visualizing it; it's important.

Every candidate for EVERY office down to dog-catcher needs to be held to this standard: Will you support a constitutional amendment to overturn the Citizens United decision? Those who won't need to be defeated. Those who will must be the ones we support and campaign for.
