(115,693 posts)we might as well just point and grunt. I don't want DU to look like a teabagger convention - we should at least be able to spell better than they do.

(25,415 posts)He has been with us a long time. Such nitpicking. I can't spell right either because I am dyslexic. I find the spell check comes in handy or I can always go back and edit posts. But my spelling sucks. And I have trouble differentiating between my left and right, but that is another story.

(25,415 posts)It is my crutch and no one is taking it away from me! But I have lots of other things I cannot do well, like read time on a clock. Spelling is the tip of the iceberg. I still can't tie my shoelaces all that well and my organization is total crap. And my sense of direction is terrible. And don't get me started on my math skills in high school. Total struggle.

(22,336 posts)I have a degree in English and have worked as a professional writer and editor, and I still make horrible typos. I can't get worked up over anyone else's typos when I make them too.

(10,618 posts)may explain how someone GETS to be a bad speller, but it doesn't explain how a person REMAINS a bad speller.
The first is involuntary. The second is a choice.

(30,947 posts)My child has 7 or 8 graded subjects, one of which is English (and which grammar is a mere component of). Is your point that if my child struggles at grammar, his grades in Math and Science are diminished? I am interested in DU as a hobby and am not interested in reading and re-reading my posts before posting. If this causes you to question my expertise in taxes and accounting (my profession), then so be it.

Only thing I think is different is sample size.
