Pro wrestling shut down by virus after Florida governor deemed it 'essential'

By Josh Israel -June 16, 2020 5:00 PM

WWE canceled its taping after a wrestler tested positive for the coronavirus.

WWE shut down an event taping scheduled for Tuesday after one of its wrestlers tested positive for the coronavirus. This comes just two months after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis exempted the pro wrestling company from social distancing rules, deeming it an "essential" business.

According to Wrestling Observer, World Wrestling Entertainment, which operates as WWE, announced Monday that one of its performers had tested positive after appearing on last week's broadcast. The publication noted that "all key members of the staff that works the shows as well as all the talent" were set to be tested Tuesday, "which would be the first COVID-19 testing the company has done."

This is not the first time a WWE employee has tested positive. According to the New York Post, a nonwrestling performer tested positive in April. The company said at the time that its "employee had no contact with anyone from WWE since being exposed ... is doing well, and made a complete recovery."

As Florida's Republican governor issued stay-at-home orders and closed some businesses in April, he specifically exempted professional wrestling from adhering to the rules.

Hey DeSantis, one of the "main" reasons why you opened up the state, was that you and your legislature didn't want to pay unemploymnet benefits, even though your state makes it almost damn near impossible to get it, and your a idiot, you think greed is the most important factor in your world of libertarian BS, human life not so much................

was running out of money to donate to DeSantis, so it was essential to DeSantis to get more.

"Look, we opened and didn't see a big spike in the virus." That's just how dumb and pathetic they are. They followed Trump over the doctors and people are getting sick and dying as a result. They thought it would be a big "Gotcha" for the experts, but it's the other way around. Science doesn't care about your feelings.

They're bringing up CA's spike in cases, know that the data says CA is testing 65,000 people a day for the last week and seeing 3000 new cases a day. FL is testing 27,000 people a day and seeing 2,000 new cases, FL is doing much worse than CA. Anf FL is still likely fudging the numbers as they're counting tests and not people tested.
