More people, younger people admitted to hospital with COVID-19 [Memphis]

Snip

Tuesday, almost another 200 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Shelby County. Monday it was 250. Doctors on the Joint Task Force say the increasing numbers was just one of their concerns.

In addition to the increase number of cases, there has been a steep incline in the number of hospitalizations. Previously the majority of the hospitalizations were from people in nursing homes, the elderly, or those with comorbidities - chronic long-term conditions.

"We are now seeing much younger people coming to the hospital, many of them in their 20s and 30s, and in many cases, people who do not have any health conditions or comorbidities. This is very worrisome because it's different than the patterns we have been seeing," said Dr. Jon McCullers.

Makes me wonder whether this is from a mutated strain? I'm staying home!

suppose to be there. They must not have the reservations, so still on skeleton. I am good until end of July. I planned to take Aug too. But I need to find a job with low traffic and where I will not be smack in the middle of lots of people for the whole shift. Clerical, accounting of some kind. But then, I am old so I am not hire-able like when I was younger. But... Yup, I am staying in too.

There was a thread here about that free course within the last couple of weeks. And I saw article that NC is hiring a bunch of tracers.

didn’t show a lot of senior citizens jammed up in groups of tens and twenties, maskless and partying hearty. The virus will enter the hosts that are available.

In my area the tourists have returned. And I expect our numbers to skyrocket in about a week. Seems it hit th e elderly first and now is coming for everyone else. A couple weeks ago there were alarming realizations about the 40-60 yo cohort, then children, now those in their prime.

It's tragic when it's older people, yet absolutely heart-breaking when children suffer from this god-awful illness; especially when parents can't sit bedside at the hospital. As a mother, I don't know how I could sleep, eat, function, knowing my child was going through it alone.

We had a big outbreak in a nursing home. However, our new numbers are people aged 5 years old to early 60s.

That is according to an ABC (local) report tonight. There was a massive spike in Tulsa. I don't know about Memphis, but if the trend continues, we will be seeing younger people getting and dying from the disease.

If I find it, I will report back here, but about a month ago it was 30-50 range, with quite a few younger ones.

Be safe!
