OP
FYI According to the note on the worldometer page, it's partly a data correction..

(42,641 posts)1. "No one could have foreseen this".
Remember Trump using that excuse?

(21,802 posts)2. Yes, I do. And I remember Bush 43 using very the same excuse.
Even though both of these failed Presidents were briefed specifically about these possibilities before they even took office.
They both chose to ignore all the warnings, then play the victim.

(5,645 posts)3. That is a pretty shocking number for today, I hope it is a fluke.
We shall see if it holds, like you said. We went out the other day and people are acting as normal.
The stores seem to still be practicing the safety measures though, all the people at curbside pickup were masked, so that is a good sign at least.

Texas: "The reported cases for June 16 include 2,622 new cases and 1,476 cases that were previously diagnosed among Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmates but that had not been reported by local health departments (887 from Anderson County and 589 from Brazoria County)."
They include notes about the data below the graphs.

I looked up and down and through it all carefully. I did a word search. One oddity is there is a large blank area below the last graph (deaths) and then some ads, followed by the "about | faq | languages | licensing | contact| report coronavirus cases" at the very end.
Same thing in both Chrome and Edge browsers.
EDITED TO ADD: OK, I see it on the U.S. page

GRRRRRR, it belongs on the Texas page too.

I was curious about Anderson Co's data and did some digging.

County's official COVID count surges almost 10-fold
It's simple: The state has decided to start counting COVID-19 prison cases in the county where the prison is located. Previously, prison cases went on a separate tally under the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
I don't really care how it's counted, Johnston said. I just want to know what the rules are. We had 103; now it's 989.

They should have been in the county they were currently residing at all along one would think. 😑
