Franklin Graham fumes over SCOTUS ruling:

'My rights to fire LGBTQ people ‘are the freedoms our nation was founded on’

June 16, 2020

By David Badash, The New Civil Rights Movement

Anti-LGBTQ activist Franklin Graham is furious over Monday’s Supreme Court ruling that finds Title Vii of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects LGBTQ workers from discrimination, and says America was founded on his right to fire them.

“As a Bible-believing follower of Jesus Christ, my rights should be protected,” Graham writing on Facebook about the SCOTUS decision, insists. “Even if my sincerely held religious beliefs might be the minority, I still have a right to hold them. The same holds true for a Christian organization. These are the freedoms our nation was founded on.”

“I believe this decision erodes religious freedoms across this country,” the evangelical Christian preacher continued. “People of sincere faith who stand on God’s Word as their foundation for life should never be forced by the government to compromise their religious beliefs.”

That’s just plain false. For example, it’s also the argument pedophile polygamist Warren Jeffs, President of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints made. The courts disagreed. (The FLDS is not the Mormon Church.)

Your hatefulness has consequences.

But I have a question for all of you fundamentalist Christians:

Show me the Bible verse where Jesus condemns homosexuality. Don't quote Leviticus because that argument fails because you're not following all of the other admonishments listed there. By the way, if we run through the Ten Commandments, we can apply them to Trump and see how he fares:

1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me; Trump openly lusts for money.
2. Honor thy father and thy mother; let's give him a pass on this one.
3. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy; Trump doesn't go to church, he goes golfing.
4. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image; check out the decor at any Trump facility.
5. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; we've heard Trump curse many times.
6. Thou shalt not kill; okay, he hasn't shot anyone on Fifth Avenue... yet.
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery; too obvious!
8. Thou shalt not steal; also too obvious!
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor; Trump lies all the time.
10. Thou shalt not covet; Trump's whole life is lusting for other people's things.

So, Trump openly flaunts at least 8 of the 10. Nice fellow you support, Graham. He really doesn't embody Jesus' teachings.

Pro tip: Jesus never said a word about homosexuality.

It's an article of faith among evangelicals that they hold "the faith of our founding fathers", which is patently false. There may be a few of the FFs who come close, but there are no matches, and the rest run a gamut from aminline protestant to Deist.

But it's part of these people's identity to regard themselves as "the Real America", so history that doesn't match their self-image gets airbrushed out as cleanly as in a Soviet photograph.

among Christian scholars.

(Not that he could be called a "scholar", but that's for another day...)

Leviticus definitely called homosexual acts sins, but many rabbis today are softening in their views. Besides, Jesus said the old law was over and a new day had appeared. The question might be asked-- just which old laws. Certainly murder was not wiped out with kosher rules...

Paul, in disputed texts, did rant about homosexuality, but seemingly in specific contexts to specific groups. Translating the original Greek (as far as we can figure out the original Greek) it almost looks like he is just condemning drag queens, not homosexuality itself.

But, Paul is often considered just a grumbling old scold anyway, so who cares what he thought. He seems to be solidly against sex slavery, straight or gay, but I suspect modern Christians don't need his sayso to be against it.

Another case of competing rights in modern America.

that the admonishment in Leviticus was not against homosexuality, but being inhospitable to a traveler/visitor.

Regarding Paul, some scholars also believe that it was the practice of men having sex with young boys, not with each other, that was the issue.

including murder. For Jesus paid for all the sins of his sheep. 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

"But, Paul is often considered just a grumbling old scold anyway, so who cares what he thought. He seems to be solidly against sex slavery, straight or gay, but I suspect modern Christians don't need his sayso to be against it.

Paul's style was not to claim that he was more righteous than anyone else, but to teach that everybody except for Jesus was a sinner and that there is no hope in yourself. Justification could only come through the imputed righteousness of Christ.

There was a time in Paul's life when he was self righteous when he was a Pharisee before is conversion. Then he had this to say.

Philippians 3:5-9 5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;

6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

A lot of fundamentalist have the same mindset as the Pharisees. Where their trying to keep the law or trying to keep what they think the law is. Well no one could keep the law except for Jesus.
James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. So if your trying to justify yourself by the works of the law if you tell a little white lie than you are also guilty of murder or whatever sin you wont to name.

Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
