Lynchings are happening again

TW: racist violence.

I apologize to any Black people reading but feel it's important for white people to know what's happening. The multi-generational trauma has reached a breaking point for so many of my Black friends, and I don't want to add to it with more violence in your feed.

But I do want every white person to read this.

Lynching is in the news again. Literal, textbook lynchings. I read about Robert Fuller over the weekend, a 24-year-old Black man found hanging in from of Palmdale, CA's town hall.

I just read a twitter thread where a gentleman compiled all incidents of Black people found hanging from trees. I'll share that thread in a link below and hope you'll read.

I'll also share a link to a petition to reopen a case that happened in Durham, NC in 2003 in which Kimmie Duncan, a 14-YEAR-OLD, was found hanging from a tree in a white neighbor's yard. I had never heard about this.

The pattern is that the police claim no foul play and nothing is ever investigated. Amazingly, there's no CTV footage available either, even in front of a town hall.

If you've been paying attention and aren't beholden to a conservative right-wing mindset and media (for any lurkers), you know white supremacist/white nationalist terrorism has been on the rise, spiking sharply when Obama was elected and then spiking again when Trump was elected, the latter because they have felt protected under Trump. They have always been there, they just went underground. They have more tools to organize and recruit now.

Trump has sided with white supremacist terrorists throughout his candidacy and presidency. The division of the FBI that investigates white supremacist terrorism has been gutted. Civil Rights legislation has consistently been rolled back by this administration. The GOP-led Senate can't even manage to pass an anti-lynching bill.

I'm not one who will ever say all members of law enforcement are hateful and violent; I know too many who have served in that capacity -- and "served" is the key word, not seeing their role as one of domination. I have FB friends who are BIPOC who serve or have loved ones who are in law enforcement. But the system is unjust and racist AF, and I don't know how anyone manages to continue to serve feeling any sense of integrity unless they are spending most of their time combating the racism and violence around them. Many of these cases reek of coverup.

It has been known at least since 2004/2005 that white supremacists have had a strategy to infiltrate all law enforcement -- federal, state and local -- and the military. The general culture in many local departments has been appalling...well, I guess forever, since the modern police force evolved from slave patrols. What we see daily now has been happening all along.

But actual lynchings are happening again, maybe all along and we haven't been paying close enough attention. The historical context of that particular form of violence and murder leaves zero room for anyone to debate whether or not it was "deserved" as we reliably see by certain white people after every act of murder of unarmed Black people.

There are violent, loathsome, vicious white supremacists among us. And at the very least you know people who look away or have a knee-jerk reaction to defend blatant racism, which perpetuates the violence. The nature of lynchings is that the act requires more than one to do it.

There are groups of depraved people committing absolutely horrific acts in 2020.

But when I just googled it to post a link here, I saw that one article was from RT, so I won't post it here. I saw another on Reddit, and I don't trust that site either. I also found a link about it on a foxla site. That is a local news channel, but still associated with fox so I won't post that here either.

This makes me wonder (even more) if some group/entity is seriously trying to start a race war.
