3,528,633 vs 3,491,555

Last edited Mon Sep 17, 2012, 01:04 AM - Edit history (1)

That's the number of people in Texas who voted for Barack Obama in 2008 compared to the number of people in Colorado, Indiana and Minnesota who were lucky enough to be in the majority to vote for him also. (BTW, I could break the numbers down even further and include more states but hopefully you get the point.) I want to get your attention for two reason. One is something that has been going on and on and on and on since I started posting here 10 years ago and that is the stupid, pointless and infinitely unhelpful bashing of my state and peripherally of the over 3 million people who voted for our president.
The main reason I hope to get your attention is to help get a great candidate elected our new senator. Ted Cruz, the republican, is a tea party candidate who is the worse of the worse. Smart, arrogant, steeped in misogamy and homophobia, he claims to be Hispanic, was born in Canada, is the love of Carl Rove and his billionaire buddies, and who will continue to take my state into the nether regions of the most primitive right wing religious idolatry which plagues those hopelessly addicted to fox, rush and its ingrained unacknowledged bigotry for their decision making. If you were to watch anything in the msm, you would only know that there is one unbeatable tea party candidate running in Texas. But that is not true. There is a Democratic candidate, Paul Sadler, moderate and experienced and a hard worker for education. Here is more info: http://www.sadlerforsenate.com/bio/. Those of us who care about making things better for all the people may be ready for a change. Maybe you can help, if not with money or people hours, perhaps you can do so by lifting us up with hope and suggestions and by constantly reminding people that there are two parties in Texas and that one of them has a great candidate for senator. Thanks.

But, I do see your point that Texas is not nearly all bad and I have heard of this Cruz person and do dearly hope that a million or so have awakened from the teabagger dream and put Sadler in. I shall help to whatever small extent I can.

the election so close and we're all seeing things.

The good news is that almost half your state voted for Obama and just a half million or so have to come over to the dark side this year. Methinks Romney just might have enough baggage to send over that half million and take Cruz down with him.

spend on negative ads and their ability, even without voters suppression laws, to intimidate minority voters; by telling them they will lose their jobs if they go to vote during work hours and by stationing people near the polls to pretend to take down names to "report" back to their bosses. This works well in small towns. They will never go down easily and they will never bow to the real will of the people.

If you guys can get a turnout for Sadler, and hence presumably also for Obama, if you can make the rethugnicans have to fight for Texas . . . then I think the rethug party finally collapses in on itself and becomes a relic of the past. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch, either.

Thanks for fighting the good fight deep in the heart of the beast.

And when the Senate race heats up, that starts to say a lot of Democrats are gonna turn out in Texas. Which says the Rmoney campaign is gonna start shitting bricks, because without Texas (and her 38 electoral votes), the Republicans can never win another national election! In fact, I would say if they even have to spend time and money campaigning in Texas, they can't really compete in a national race!

Hey, if you can't dream big, you just die small.

How many Utahs worth of Dems could fit into 1 Texas worth of Dems?

There are aprox. 2,817,222 total in Utah. There are aprox. 648,000 Democrats (give or take most of them).

That makes about 5.45 Utah worth of Blues to 1 Texas worth of Blues.

(these numbers could be + or - 100% points because I just tried to figure it out in my head)

Would be nice if Alan Grayson brought Paul Sadler in under his wing and if he could get on the teevee. I'll never be guilty of bashing your state out of respect for my dad's friend in Plano who is as blue (except for her white hair) a person as you'd ever want to meet. She despairs to him frequently via e-mail about the state of her state. But she contributes to campaigns and VOTES and of course, there are millions more like her.

This is a hugely significant race, and we'll be watching.
