'Police the Police!' is what people are in the streets for, and what a great bulk of the people support and want to see.

(95,252 posts)It is used to smear Democrats, because the most radical voices are always held to be the responsibility of Democratic politicians. So time is wasted, and effort is wasted, dealing with the ritual of the press asking 'Do you support de-funding police?' It is simply a distraction, and like so much of academic radicalism, serves the enemy better by far than it does the left.

But they can set regulations and laws pertaining to standards.

(24,436 posts)I believe they are generally in support of the general aims of the movement, which is to reform the police, hopefully move some more things to community services. "Defund the Police" reads and sounds to a lot of people as getting rid of police altogether, which is something that few people will actually support. Not even Sanders supports it under that kind of terminology.
