Trump is pulling troops out of Germany

Just heard it on Shields and Brooks.

Guess this is way of paying Merkel back for her telling him to fuck off when he tried to invite her here for the G7.

Trump is a small minded, big headed, self centered, ignorant fool.

We are poorly served as a nation on every front, by Trump.

It seems there are different opinions. I had just thought that most of us wanted any US combat troops out of other countries.

Granted, I think we want to retain air bases, naval ports and other logidtics facilities for any contingencies, but I didn't think we wanted Infantry and Tank Divisions (Combat Troop) there on the ground in peacetime. I live and learn.

But personally I support remaining engaged in NATO And keeping close ties to the Nations in Western Europe.

I would support a draw down in forces if accompanied by a treaty with Russia that limited the risk of any future aggression by them. But right now Trump is rewarding their aggression. Or doing his masters bidding. Putin is pushing in Georgia and surrounding areas and he wants the Baltic states back badly.

But plenty of DU members would disagree.

21. Trump orders massive cut to U.S. troop numbers in Germany: report
Fri Jun 5, 2020, 07:56 PM
Jun 2020

The U.S. military will reduce its footprint in Germany by nearly one-third after President Donald Trump ordered a dramatic drawdown in force levels from the key NATO ally, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

The newspaper cited White House officials who said the move was outlined in a memorandum signed White House National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien in recent days that has still not been made public yet.

Under the order, U.S. troop presence in Germany would drop by 9,500 servicemembers, from 34,500 today to about 25,000.

A Franco-German-Russ alliance now that Britain is now out of the EU.

Don't think it will happen, but imagine if Russia;

1. Agreed to pull out of Ukraine with the caveat, they keep Crimea and Citizens who want to return to Russia could. And pledge not to mess with them unless the EU says its ok to do so.

2. Agreed to reform its electoral politics to EU standards after Putin dies.

3. The new EU military gets full access to Russian Military Complex.

4. Russia leans on Iran to give up all nuclear aspirations so long they could get full trading rights in the EU (and a guarantee of some protection from he EU)

5. A favored trading scheme with China.

6. Take a lot of Syrian Refugees and promises to award some contracts in the rebuilding of the country.

7. Cheap energy.

8. Full pledge to not mess with the Baltic and Scandinavian nations, and pull back all military forces near their borders.

9. Eliminate all intermediate range nuclear missiles....that was honored by treaty until Trump pulled us out of it.

Hey, its sounds ridiculous....but I was floored when I saw a street in Paris named after Joseph Stalin.

Russia Sends More Troops West, Challenging U.S.-NATO Presence Near Borders

Russia has announced the deployment of more personnel to its western region, signaling a new challenge to the increasingly active U.S.-led NATO military alliance forces operating there.

The Western Military District press service said Friday that the Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Sevastopol Red Banner Brigade was deployed to Moscow's Novomoskovsky Administrative District, joining the Guards Red Banner Tank Army "to perform tasks on ensuring the defense of the Russian Federation in the Western strategic direction," according to the state-run Tass Russian News Agency.

The motorized rifle units are equipped with "more modern weapons and specialized vehicles," including the T-90A tanks, BTR-82A armored carriers, BMP-3 combat vehicles, and 9A34 Strela-10 and 2S6M Tunguska air defense systems, the Russian military said.

The moves came just days after Colonel General Sergei Rudskoi of the Russian General Staff slammed "anti-Russian" activities conducted by the U.S. and allied states of the 29-member NATO defense pact near his country's borders. The largest deployment of U.S. troops in a quarter-century was scaled down due to novel coronavirus concerns in March, but the U.S. still stepped up its presence through other maneuvers.

We're not there to protect Germany. Our presence there is for OUR benefit. There are two large hospitals there that are the nearest treatment centers for wounded soldiers coming from Iraq and Afghanistan. They also serve military stationed throughout Europe and Africa, as well as their family members. There's also an intelligence complex. But, Big Daddy Vlad wants us out of his backyard, and his orange asslicker gives him everything he wants.
