and a half. So my guess is voters in his state have internalized that. Him being a loyal rightwing republican likely mean more than him being gay, if that is true about him.

Some people that are speculated about turn out not to be what people guessed, while others surprise. For example, the great baseball HOF George Brett never really dated while playing his long career. Some speculated about his sexuality. Once he was done with baseball in his forties, he dated and married a woman and is married today with several kids. Kevin Spacey came off as heterosexual (at least to me), so what he was doing forcing himself on men as a gay man came as a shock to me. The father of the Smart woman who was kidnapped in Utah came out as gay a year or two ago, he came off as the total heterosexual.

Personally, I wish that everyone would simply live what they are sexually. It makes NO difference to sane people in this modern world who a person loves.

Although I might have private conversations within my community about the message it sends when we do (in public) the kind of speculation that we find homophobic when it is imposed on us.

My issue is that it is overwhelmingly non-LGBT people using it on DU, and that is the equivalent of white people using the "N" word. Not acceptable - even if you are close enough, in private, in an LGBT community that has embraced you to use it as an in-joke.

I think most LGBT people would agree that - even within our community - threatening outing someone; using being gay as a weapon is not acceptable. And it is worse when - as on DU- our request to purported straight allies to stop using our lives as a weapon are almost universally met with disdain.

The point really isn't whehter you care who sleeps with whom - it is that (largely) straights feel free to use our lives as a battering ram against enemies, which inherenty leaves us bruised with each blow struck.
