(1,699 posts)As David Pakman said they will be using a lot of 'garbage numbers'. He explained those as where employment falls by , for easy math lets say from 100 to 20 and 80% drop, then it goes up 10%. Of course that is 10% or the 20 for an additional 2 jobs but they will praise as a 10% rise in employment even though 78 people are still unemployed.

(8,203 posts)The Trump administration has instructed state labor officials to not release unemployment numbers, in a clear effort to minimize the severity of the impact the coronavirus pandemic is having on the markets.

It seems they've employed some creative accounting methodology (sorta like Enron). See this:

(4,555 posts)the increase in jobs just reported for Canada was pretty much in line with the US figures (about 1/10th as large) and the Canadian economy tends to track the US pretty closely.

(4,533 posts)I saw many financial people predict a bounce back. An Obama economic adviser predicts biggest gdp decline in history in quarter 2, then biggest gdp gain ever quarter 3. Leaving the economy down 40% overall.

Are they part of the conspiracy too? Krugman has backtracked as well.
This is an incredibly difficult environment for the BLS to operate in, but your accusation sounds more like Trumps false claims of President Obama manipulating BLS data than reality.

That's nakedly misleading.
there have been portal quote professionals in other departments that the Trump administration have gotten to also

The BLS has been incredibly transparent about the challenges they are facing. It is the opposite of what you are saying.
uponit7771
(90,347 posts)It's hard to discuss things if facts don't matter.
The BLS is allowing the same mistake to happen three months in a row is not transparent
tritsofme
(17,379 posts)Its included in the report, they have been upfront about this challenge.
You are making unfounded assumptions about motives.
The BLS does not make ad-hoc corrections, that would go against standard practice. They have been completely transparent, there is zero evidence of political manipulation. This is a conspiracy theory.
uponit7771
(90,347 posts)... when the adjustments can be put in a footnote in the non adjustments can be reported
also letting the same mistake in the favor of trump go on for 3 months in a row is not transparent.
putting that they let the same mistake go on for 3 months in a row in the footnote doesn't mean they're transparent I dispute that logical fallacy on its face

(17,379 posts)No one credible in this space is claiming the BLS is manipulating in favor of Trump. This is conspiracy nonsense.

(90,347 posts)... footnoted is irrelevant its still being ... ALLOWED.
No professional is going to believe it takes the BLS 3 months to correct a survey procedure, that's some gas lighting bullshit.
You can believe the opposite but you can't find anywhere were the BLS kept doing something like this and footnoting it for 3 months.
tritsofme
(17,379 posts)I dont know why they havent been able to correct it yet, they claimed today to be taking additional steps to address the issue. It is a technical issue not a Trump issue.
There is simply no evidence that it is being driven by Trump cronies, and no one credible is claiming that it is. Stop spreading conspiracy theories.
uponit7771
(90,347 posts)... to note the proper data on a survey !?
There is simply no evidence that it is being driven by Trump cronies, ...
There is evidence Trump cronies have fudged data before and that the ... ALLOWED ... mistakes by the BLS favors Trump politically no matter the intentions of BLS

Really without the LFPR falling too ... no, the BLS report says the LFPR increased
So the BLS prints a "footnote" on page 6 saying they're continuing their 3 month "mistake" in classifying the unemployed.

(24,414 posts)but it's more of the fact that businesses are re-opening. And I mean, they went down around a point or two. It's still very, very high. And the damage to the economy is, at least in part, due to how badly he bungled the response to COVID.
