(5,969 posts)Also, all I've previously seen from Skip were mostly a few Youtube clips where he looks like a dork and is often wrong but the moment this started, he looked like a privileged older white dude who's getting it in contrast to what he called the willful insensitivity of guys like Brees. I was surprised.

(2,270 posts)I find kneeling for justice to be just that. A plea to open your eyes. I'm a veteran, my father was a veteran and my grandfather was a veteran. Trying to draw attention to the things that make a mockery of our ideals as a country is NOT "disrespecting" the flag, our military or anything else except the disregard for those very same ideals. Protesting injustice is core to respecting our democratic ideals. For it to be made into anything else is ......... totally missing the point.
If Mr. Brees is so damn proud of his grandfathers military service then why the HELL didn't HE sign up? It burns me to the bone that so freaking many of these "conservative" asshats that are all so loving and protective of our flag and country never served a day in its defense. Spewing rhetoric from the safety of your high paid job, either from a broadcasting booth or from a position of entitlement does NOT make you a patriot. Same goes for the members of these camo wearing gun toting haircut deprived jerks who try to terrorize our elected leaders into doin their bidding.

I couldn't care less about his grandfathers' experiences. A few million men did the same thing. It doesn't make Drew special.
It's not like he was there.
He's talking about 2 generations ago.
My dad was too young for WW2. Turned 18 during Korea, but was fluent in Italian so went as medical corps translator in occupied Italy.
FiL was in WW2. 3 uncles, too. Another uncle was Korea.
That has zero influence on what I see when the flag is raised.
Besides, I think flags are a silly symbol anyway.
So, Drew: white guy here, older than you, who DOESN'T see what you see despite similar background. (Well, except for the better educated thing).
Sit down, shut up, & start listening.

(32,688 posts)Some seem to worship the symbol and forget what makes up what it symbolizes. They can trash the land, water and air and and do it while trashing the things it is suppose represent.
Go figure.
