A strong majority of Americans still says slowing the spread of coronavirus is more important than getting the economy back up and running.
In the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll, 57% of Americans prioritized controlling spread of the pandemic, including 81% of Democrats and 59% of independents. But just 27% of Republicans said slowing coronavirus spread was more important, while 66% said restarting the economy should be the priority.
Overall, Americans continue to be concerned about spread of the virus, with 63% worrying that they or a family member could catch it and 68% remaining worried about the potential for a second wave in the fall.
Nearly 6 in 10 also describe the economic impact of the pandemic on their community as "severe." Interestingly, 63% of Democrats say that, a slightly higher rate than both independents (58%) and Republicans (57%).
