As a lifelong resident of Erie County, Julie has a deep understanding of not only the challenges that face us, but also the profound sense of community that defines us.
Julie was raised in a home that valued hard work and humility, and was blessed with the opportunity to be raised by not only her parents Bernie, a sales manager, and Nancy, a controller, but her four grandparents as well. Julie’s grandmother Joan was a proud AFSCME member and nurse at the Pennsylvania Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Home, and her grandfather Carl was a funeral home director. Her grandfather Russell was a machine operator, and her grandmother Helen was an assembly line inspector. Following in her parents’ and grandparents’ example, Julie has always taken pride in her work.
After graduating from Penn State Behrend, Julie spent time working at a local copy shop and even as a concession stand manager for the Erie SeaWolves before she entered a career in human resources, spending eight years at Logistics Plus.
As chief of staff for Representative Bizzarro, Julie helped drive policy, investments and initiatives that benefited the people of Erie County. They focused on improving the lives of veterans, working families, seniors, students and even our animal friends.
In 2015, Governor Wolf asked Julie to join his administration as his Northwest Regional Director. In this role, Julie represented the governor in Erie and also served as the voice of the people of Erie in the governor’s administration. In this role, Julie built strong relationships with community leaders, and local, state and federal officials on both sides of the aisle to advocate for the people of Erie County.
In her time as regional director, Julie oversaw the new investments in the Port of Erie, the revitalization of the Warner Theatre, and the recovery of the Erie School District.
As the granddaughter of a GE plant worker, Julie took it personally when downsizing dramatically reduced the workforce at GE Transportation in Erie County.
When she saw the struggles of the laid-off workers were going through to get their well-deserved benefits, she rolled up her sleeves and worked day in and day out to make sure they got their unemployment compensation.
Erie County deserves a champion that will listen and be a strong voice for our community in Harrisburg. Julie is running for the Pennsylvania Senate because she knows the issues that matter the most to her community.
Julie is sick and tired of Erie being an afterthought. As your next State Senator, Julie will always make the people of Erie her first thought.
As a senator for Erie County, Julie would fight for:
Access to health care that is actually affordable
- Protecting workers in a changing economy
- Giving our seniors more opportunity and choice
- Better schools for our kids
Julie lives in Erie with Mellie, her three-year-old bichon-poodle, and her new kitten, Mateo. In her spare time, Julie enjoys training for marathons. To date, she has completed three marathons and five half marathons. Julie is also a graduate of Emerge PA, the premier training program for women running for office in Pennsylvania.
