the republican response to donnie is woefully insufficient to preserve a democracy

sorry to say, but the response from republicans is woefully insufficient to maintain what little actual democracy we have left.

if we had a remotely functioning democracy, republicans would be pushing back strongly against donnie's blatantly dictatorial moves.

the last few days provided republicans an easy way to break out of the trap they've been in, because donnie's moves have been so over-the-top obviously tinpot dictator, putting the military in the streets, tear gassing innocent civilians, hiring a private army.

most of us see this as incremental to the authoritarian crap he's been pulling since day one, but these latest actions are easily recognized by everyone as not normal in a democracy but everything we think of when we think of dictators.

getting a lot of push back from democrats doesn't mean jack to donnie.
getting a lot of push back from pundits doesn't mean jack to donnie.
getting mild qualms from one republican senator doesn't mean jack to donnie.

the sad fact is that a democracy depends not just on the majority getting their way, but enough of the minority saying we're ok with that.

if republicans can't bring themselves to stop donnie bringing in the military to flex muscle, hire private troops, and gas protesters, then there's really nothing to believe republicans won't stand by him when he cheats in november.

hell, we have every reason to believe they'll be in on it.

we have to do this ourselves, but to do that, 60% won't be enough. we need 70% on our side. we have to vote in numbers so overwhelming in so many states it's too much for them to steal.

because they *will* try.
