(2,186 posts)But I just watched a Feenstra ad (to see who he was). Wingnut claiming "Trump needs conservatives to pass his agenda" (build the wall, defend guns, blah blah). King is a pig but it would be great for a Democrat to take that district. That being said, it would be hard for Feenstra to be worse.

(2,169 posts)Every ad starts with the fact he's a christian, them all he talks about it stopping abortion, brags he wrote the defining life at conception, wants to ban sactuary cities, he get trumps wall built... All the hot button issues, and nothing else. And he doesn't have the clowns baggage to weigh him down.
Example:
"Delivering For the Unborn. I was born and raised in a strong Christian family and faith is at the center of my family, my work and my public service. I'm a true Christian conservative and that's why I've been a leading voice for defending life in the State Senate"

(2,281 posts)He may finally have been beatable in the general election.
A normal Republican will almost certainly win the general election.
I am glad he lost, but it would have been better if he narrowly won his primary to get trounced in the general election.

(24,330 posts)But there is always the likelihood that they'd have voted for King in the GE anyway.
Best he is gone

(2 posts)Kings exit paves the way for an even more racist Trump supporter, which means that person is guaranteed to get even less of the popular vote come November. This will allow a good, decent, centrist Democrat to swoop in and take all the middle votes and perhaps some of the right-leaners. We could see an upset in Iowa if DNC can find someone who can tick those and a few more boxes.

(49,991 posts)While we all hate King, he was likely the easiest Repub to beat. A lot of right leaning independents would have stayed home rather than vote for King again. He was poison. Now they will happily vote for Feenstra. Plus the 4th district has a ton of die hard republicans. They will come out in droves for Feenstra.
