Tyson Foods said Tuesday 815 workers have tested positive for COVID-19 at two meat processing plants in western Iowa.
The Arkansas-based company said 591 workers tested positive for the coronavirus at its Storm Lake pork meatpacking plant, which has temporarily closed while the entire facility is sanitized.
The pork plant employs about 2,300 workers and is scheduled to reopen Wednesday. About 75% of the employees testing positive had no symptoms, the company said.
Another 224 workers tested positive for the virus at Tyson's beef and pork processing plant in Council Bluffs, where nearly 1,500 people work. About half of those testing positive had no symptoms, Tyson said.
