On campaign trail, Romney ratchets ups God rhetoric

"At campaign events these days, Mitt Romney often says that if he is elected president, he will emphasize the role of God in American society and will not take God out of the public square.
That kind of rhetoric is a departure from earlier less God-focused versions of the Republican candidates stump speech and his early apprehension with discussing his Mormon faith."

(10,960 posts)He is making his God an aspect of policy, so a halfway sane country would want to know what this God of his is like.
And America would be shocked to find out.

(8,462 posts)I think we have some excellent examples of what happens when too much god gets inserted into the "public square" going on all over the world right now.
Personally, I make very little distinction between his god and Obama's god.

(10,960 posts)As an atheist, I don't have a dog in this fight.
But it has to be "fair" to examine the religious views of self-avowing would-be theocrats.
The inverse is too senseless.

(50,562 posts)Romney's base is down to two groups of people: EXTREMELY rich people (the kind who consider anyone with less than $10 million in cash on hand to be "lower middle class" who want him to eliminate the capital gains tax, and hyper-religious people who are looking for a clean-shaven Mullah Omar with a cross instead of a turban.
Those guys are mad about things like not being able to put a creche in City Park, so if Romney starts talking about keeping God in the public square (apparently that huge tax-exempt building he lives in now ain't good enough for him) he might retain the Christians.
As for the rest of them, most extremely-rich people would be better off with Obama's policies than with Romney's...having a zero-percent tax on investment income doesn't do you much good if your investments all collapse thanks to Romney's policies.

Maybe then people would realize what fakery it is.
Or they'd kill each other in a couple of weeks.

(2,682 posts)Are his increased references to god made to introduce us to the White Horse Prophecy whereby Romney and the LDS believe that he will be president and LDS will govern the country? It is their intention to have a theocracy -- just their brand and not the others who also believe in a theocracy. That's the problem with wanting a theocracy: who's will be the dominate entity?
