I usually receive my check about the 20th of the month. It is now the 31st. No check. It comes via direct deposit.
Should I be concerned? Is is because the S.S. administration is short handed?
My bills need to be paid and I am concerned.
If this is normal during these awful times, I understand but I don't want bill collectors calling me or have some of my services cut off.
Yes, I know my problem is minor compared to what is going on now but this old timer is without other resources.

(5,333 posts)It's always the third Wednesday, not the same date. I wouldn't be too concerned.

(146,333 posts)You will need to contact the Social Security Administration about your missing payment.
Here are instructions from the SSA:
Prepare for delays on that phone number. You may be waiting for some time before you reach someone, but stick with it.

Do you have an online account you can check for any communication from SSA?

(115,869 posts)which means that the actual date can vary considerably, from the 15th to the 21st of a particular month, and if it's a direct deposit it should be automatic with no human intervention needed. Mine has been arriving as usual. so I don't think it's a staffing issue. Sometimes other government agencies can garnish SS checks as for back taxes but you'd have been notified if that was happening - so I don't know what's going on.

(58,719 posts)Not a minor problem. The DD payments should be set up to go out automatically, I would presume.
You need to call them, I think, though that will probably be difficult.
It's my only source of income also. I would be freaked myself.

(10,920 posts)but 11 days past when you expect it is a bit much.
If you live in Minneapolis or your mail is processed there, a post office was burned ... another has been shut down ...

(1,736 posts). .my confidence that I can count on it diminishes every month. I hope youll raise hell with your elected so-called representatives, and also report it to the media (Tell Rachel?). If something nefarious is going on, it needs to be nipped in the bud. For your sake, I hope it was just a momentary glitch. Good luck.

I don't know if you should be concerned, but I would be if my deposit was late.
