(51,726 posts)They're not even pretending to be protesting his murder. They're carrying no signs. Most are not African American. They're looters.
Here's the thing. When you make a sarcastic comment like "What a wonderful tribute to honor the memory George Lloyd [sic]," it sounds like you are referring to George Floyd protesters, and that is very unfair, since these are looters, not George Floyd protesters. Your comment sounds like what we hear from Trump and right wing media, that the protesters are thugs who are faking being outraged just so they can loot and burn.
What is happening is that Anarchists, white supremacists and various sundry assholes are taking advantage of the chaos to wreak mayhem, and they're not even pretending to care about George Floyd or the cause of civil rights. When you suggest they are claiming to be doing this in Floyd's memory, you are reinforcing the right wing narrative that the protesters are hoodlums.
The looters are hoodlums, not those protesting George Floyd's murder.

(58,785 posts)and resentment is manifested in different ways. Can't expect people who've lived to low standards to suddenly turn into people of stern principle during riots. But an opportunistic thief carrying a stolen TV to the car can also remember George Floyd and be an angry witness to a lifetime of injustice. In 2016, over 46% of those who who went to the polls voted to oppress and even persecute minorities, and almost as many didn't even bother to vote to stop them. After the promise of Obama, we turned into that.
