Cincinnati Bengals rookie quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow is the latest professional athlete to speak out after the death of George Floyd on Monday in Minneapolis.
In a Friday Twitter post, Burrow wrote: "The black community needs our help. They have been unheard for far too long. Open your ears, listen, and speak. This isn't politics. This is human rights."

1. He was a good student too.

Did well academically in high school (while throwing something like 61 TD's vs 2 INT's as a senior).

A good education is important.

3. He got his Master's degree in Liberal Arts this December at LSU...

and, very incidentally, we shared the same barber here.

4. I was disappointed that he left tOSU.

His talent was obvious to me during Spring practices and such, but the team was "loaded" in that regard and the coaches had to make a decision.

He somehow "slipped under the radar" among national recruiting rankings after high school too, despite winning Ohio's "Mr. Football" award given to the player considered the best in the state. (He was a Parade magazine winner too, which involves academics too.)

He always seemed really nice and level-headed.

5. Didn't an injury set him back at tOSU?

As for the barber, I was surprised when I learned about it. The guy runs a very small business, one or two employees besides himself, a neighborhood kind of place. I guess Joe lived nearby. Then I learned more about Joe's upbringing in Ohio and realized that he is not much interested in fancy stuff or in putting on airs.

6. Yeah, he seemed to remain humble too.

I think there was an injury that played a role in the coaching decision -- that is, officially declaring Haskins the starter. (Who was indeed a very accurate QB, but he didn't move as quickly as Burrow.)

7. Good on him.

I Graduated from a SEC school. And my family has ties to 4 of them.

Not embarrassed to say I played football and love it. And watch college ball as often as I can. I know it’s violent and causes injuries. And may be on it way out. I like Soccer a lot too.

The vast majority of SEC players are African American. Most Players in the league Relate to the struggle.

Coaches and administration folks, not so much. But 20 year old players certainly do.

This can actually make a different. Burrows is from Ohio. But Louisiana folks love him. Unless you are from Louisiana it is hard to understand.
