https://www.columbusnavigator.com/columbus-police-protests/Check out the above article detailing the abuses the Columbus Police took on a peaceful protest. A couple things to note. First, notice that the cops all have tape over their body cameras. Gee, I wonder why they don't want anyone to see what they're doing. Also, watch some of the videos included in the article. You'll see a woman get maced as she walks AWAY from a cop, you'll see a photographer who is simply standing there taking pictures get maced by a bicycle cop 20 feet away, and you'll see a man standing dead still with his hands in the air get maced right in the face from 5 feet away.
This is unacceptable. Columbus is now under a State of Emergency with a curfew because Columbus Police decided to hurl tear gas and flash-bangs into a peaceful protest. It reminds of the time when I was maced by Columbus cops when I was simply standing on the corner trying to legally cross the street. It was the night before a historically big Ohio State football game against Notre Dame (they hadn't played Notre Dame in Columbus in years, so it was a big deal), so the Columbus cops were loaded for bear. The High Street bars let out at 2:00 AM, just like always, and the crowd was on the street trying to get back to their homes. When a crowd gathered at the corner, waiting for traffic to pass so they could safely and legally pass (a crowd of which I was a part), Columbus cops maced the entire crowd. So the natural result was for the entire crowd to start running, which made the situation wildly dangerous. Shortly thereafter (when these sorts of incidents became frighteningly common), the Federal government actually stepped in and forced the Columbus Chief of Police to resign and overhauled the entire force. That's how bad it was. That was 25 years ago. Apparently, very little has changed.

I don't, however, think the "tape over their body cams" is accurate.
The tape is colored red or yellow on different sets of officers and is not placed over the cameras.
If it was, that would need to be investigated, too.

body armor. More likely used to coordinate teams.
