India and China Move In More Troops as Border Tensions Rise

India has moved additional troops along its northern border as it prepares for an extended conflict with neighbor China, after several rounds of talks failed to ease tensions between the nuclear-armed rivals.

China has already placed about 5,000 soldiers and armored vehicles within its side of the disputed border in the Ladakh region, an Indian government official said, asking not to be identified citing rules. India is adding a similar number of troops as well as artillery guns along the border to fend off the continuing incursions by Chinese army, the official said.

The standoff began on May 5, when troops clashed on the banks of Pangong Tso -- a glacial lake at 14,000 feet in the Tibetan plateau -- leaving scores of soldiers on both sides injured. Since then there has been a steady build up of troops amid continuing face-offs.

“The Chinese have been expanding presence in this region for a long time, yet after all these decades, India hasn’t found a way to deal with China’s gradual expansion,” said Phunchok Stobdan, former Indian diplomat and author of the Great Game in the Buddhist Himalayas.

U.S. President Donald Trump said in a tweet Wednesday that he had offered to mediate. There was no immediate response from India or China.

They also know guerilla warfare more than the chinese, they have been fighting taliban and guerilla armies in the north for decades.

The big reason why the 1918 Virus kicked the world's ass is there was a WW war going on. SAR-COV-2 will damage the world if China and India are at war, forcing massive numbers of people to cluster for safety or immigrate for safety.

Absolutely the stupidest thing either country can do right now is go to war.

Their shadow banking system has to be held together with duct tape at this point.

They have civil unrest in and regarding Hong Kong

They scrapped their economic development goals for the first time ever

And no one believes their official Covid-19 numbers.

Their leadership desperately needs an outside Boogeyman to keep the populace in line, and I absolutely believe they would prefer external war against internal upheaval.

Both are supposedly very good at fighting at that altitude.

There has been a war between China and India before in fairly recent history, I don't know whether the flashpoint that started that conflict was the shared border rivalry.

in such a densely packed space. That would simply lead to disaster. Hopefully they just saber rattle while their diplomats try to find a solution, or at least get a timeout.

You have Pakistan who is interested in the area.

Then to the east, you have Tibet...which want's its independence.

Both of them will probably make sure the war grinds in for the long haul, weakening both. And once they are exhausted, Pakistan launches a war to take all of Kasmir and Tibet launches a revolt for independence.
