(10,252 posts)As a Buddhist, I try to NOT cultivate anger and hatred, both of which are poison and bring no peace, joy, and love to anyone. I decided that the best way for me to view Trump is as a master's class in ethical morality. His actions, words, and thoughts are the exact opposite of the body, speech, and mind of a fully and perfectly enlightened Buddha. Every day in every way, he corrupts the possibility of gaining any merit and virtue through the 10 non-virtues of killing, stealing, lying, sexual misconduct, harsh speech, divisive speech, idle gossip, envy, ill-will, and wrong views.
Trump has cultivated the 10 non-virtues for so long (all his life) that they have become his unmindful and habitual way of being. He is struck in them, stuck in a hateful delusional view.
I can't change him; I can only change myself. To hate him is to be like him. I am better than that.

(17,339 posts)My one desire for him is that at some point soon he realizes what an empty vessel he has always been and how much he is both laughed at and disliked by so many. It's a vain hope.
A good friend of mine, also a Buddhist, takes a similar stance and as I listen to him it sometimes calms me... sometimes. Reminders to try to not hate are helpful, utter disdain is easier.

(8,200 posts)Because of our apathy we have allow Republicans to elect a hopelessly corrupt man to become our leader. Far too many stood by and allowed a segment of the population that has allowed itself to be wholly consumed by their prejudices to subject us to whims of a petty what-a-be tyrant.

(9,685 posts)I hate him. Period. But more than that I hate that he cannot change. He cannot grow. He cannot develop empathy. He does not have that in him. And although I should pity him for this, I hate him for this because of the misery and pain he has caused to so many.

(10,252 posts)Unfortunately, people like Trump don't get to have an epiphany of realization without some very great catastrophic and painful event that makes them realize how they screwed up big time. Even so, most blame someone else for their catastrophe. I don't need to hate Trump. All his big bombastic self-praise is a coverup for his own fears, insecurities, and self-loathing. He is not going to change in this lifetime. Personally, I think he's headed for great suffering in Hell.
He is not a happy man. I don't see any joy in his face. I just see anger and hatred. He has no real friends, just flattering sycophants and grifters in pursuit of money and power. How empty.
Maybe if he goes to prison and gets locked in solitary for 23 hours a day, someone will send him an inspirational book. But then, he doesn't read, does he? Maybe the greatest irony would be that a black muslim convict treats him with compassion and converts him to the peace of Allah. But that won't happen either. Nope, Trump's mind will land him in Hell. So ya see, I don't need to hate him. I feel sorry for him.
