Stores should have a right to block shoppers

who do not wear masks.

Obviously they cannot ban shoppers based on race or gender, attire (except shoes and shirts) religion or national origin.

But they should have a right to discriminate against maskless shoppers.

Both in COSTCO and Trader Joe's there were shoppers without masks. Yes, in one place - Walmar? - a security guard was shot to death. But still. When I am scanning the shelves, I do not always watch for who is next to me and whether they wear a mask.

it's a matter of enforcement. and whether they want to put their employees to the trouble (and the danger?) involved in enforcing such. how many employees, and how much time, is it going to take to "remove" the guy that wears a mask coming in .. and then immediately removes it upon entry? but as you have pointed out "no shirt - no shoes" (and others) have been in place for quite some time. so, the quite clearly have the right to do so.

Interesting thing about COSTCO and Trader Joe’s: At COSTCO one has to show membership card before entering. And it now labels one door EXIT and the other ENTRANCE with ropes along an expected line.

Trader Joe’s has Xs at six feet apart outside the store and an employee lets shoppers enter as others exit.

Thus, there is a logistics to enforce it.

You have certain rights on private property and you can impose restrictions, and we see many, like, no shoes, no shirt, no service.

That is where the ignorant just don't get it. Generally, there are certain freedoms we enjoy in the commons--the collective sphere of interactions. I guess it is not obvious that that private property changes things and capitalism supports that, as well.

When you go into a workplace, there are plenty of rules and restrictions that you are obliged to follow, (no matter what your protests or opinions are about personal freedom) what is in the company policy. The only rights you have are outlined by regulations that require the company to not abuse you, put you in danger, (OSHA) etc.

What part of private party don't people get. I bet they won't go to work and act like that and if they did, well, there are quick replacements.

with, say, a white nationalist tshirt on, I can and will tell them to GTFO and I have every right to do so.

Being an asshole and wearing it your shirt is not a protected class.

I think that a white hood could be argued as “First Amendment”

And I can't discriminate against a person based on their religion. In some contexts, regarding a white hood, the 1st amendment would apply. But the 1st amendment does not apply in my privately owned shop, I am not the government.

If I see a woman in a hijab (which happens regularly in my part of SE Michigan) I ask How can I help you?

White hood? GTFO or I'll call the cops.

Use a racial or homophobic slur? GTFO or I'll call the cops.

My place is inclusive to everything but hate. I have a sign saying as much near the door.

No MAGA hats allowed...snarky passive/aggressive comments about my mask or face shield are not tolerated...the inebriated, the unwashed...all are subject to trespassing charges if they do not comply when I ask them to leave the store. I keep a Louisville Slugger behind the counter in plain sight for all to see. For those that decide they want to return to make trouble after having been 86'ed, I have a magnetic lock on the door so that I don't even have to argue with them...I just lock their ass out on the sidewalk and call the cops.

but only if we have police officers on duty to enforce it. You should see the anger spewing from customers when we ask that they please take a shopping cart to help with social distancing. The American public is full of fucking ignorant ass nutcases.
