WSJ: Nursing homes don't have to report pre-May COVID-19 deaths to U.S. officials.

According to a form on the CDC site, the info only has to go back to the week leading up to the first filing, which was supposed to occur by May 17. Older data is optional.

Nursing Homes Don’t Have to Report Pre-May Covid-19 Deaths to U.S. Officials

A May 8 rule requires facilities to submit data on coronavirus cases, but CDC says older information is optional

A recently launched federal effort to collect data on the impact of the coronavirus in nursing homes will leave the full toll unclear, because a new rule doesn’t require facilities to report deaths and infections that occurred before early May.

I live where one of the first nursing homes started having deaths on March 25th, in the end they went back and made corrections into March. Around the county most of the 445 deaths have been nursing home or assisted living communities.

Knowing how many death mean knowing just how big the problem is with these companies that just warehouse the old and infirmed. There are also group homes for developmentally disabled, aged veterans, handicapped.

There actually need to have a thorough investigation into the practices in all of them.

There's no excuse for the CDC to do this. They know better.
