Woman injured by bison at Yellowstone two days after national park reopened

A bison injured a woman visiting Yellowstone on Wednesday, two days after the national park partially reopened from COVID-19 restrictions.

Park spokeswoman Linda Veress told CNN the woman was following too close behind the bison, which then knocked her to the ground.

The park did not release the woman's name. She was reportedly aided by park medical staff and declined to go to the hospital.

Veress said the woman violated the park's guidance instructing visitors to remain at least 25 yards away from all large animals.

A separate incident occurred on May 12, while the park was still closed, when an unauthorized visitor reportedly fell into a "thermal feature" close to the famous Old Faithful geyser and was transferred to a medical facility for burn injuries.

Usually more than once. Yellowstone seems to suffer a large swath of idiots annually. For the record, I think 25 yards is too close to get to a bison. They are badass animals who can get moving faster than you’d think.

Those things can move! Beautiful animals but still wild animals. On the bright side they are big enough to see from a little further away.

depicting a huge angry bison goring a little stick figure, tossing the victim high up in the air, with the figure's tiny camera still around his/her neck. Tourists ignore them.

are lumbering slow creatures. Then think of the buffalo hunt sequence in Dances With Wolves. They are quick and massive, capable of tossing a human many yards.

Bears can run 35mph. Mountain lions can leap 40 ft. Parks aren't animal theme attractions.

The urge to get a cool selfie to post online is often to blame. There was the guy who wanted a selfie with a rattlesnake. He almost became a Darwin Award candidate but did get a $153,000 hospital bill.
