(161 posts)In 5 years of active duty, a West Point grad, #1 in his class was never given command of a cav troop ( company) This is a tell for me, a former army AR CPT who has been in command and the father of a West Point grad who is in his second INF company command.
Obviously he did not receive the faith and confidence of his superior officers

(32,610 posts)I have some West Point grads in my family but have never discussed Pompeo with them. Probably never will.

(39,171 posts)my brother was in the same situation - the Army started a large draw prior to Desert Storm and offered an early out for a lot of junior officers because there would be no need for then in the future. My brother stayed just long enough for Desert Storm and then left the Army.

(2,193 posts)Pompeo may, at first glance, seem an unlikely candidate to get tangled in this web. He was the top-ranked graduate of his class at West Point (whose code of honor commands cadets not to lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do) and a church deacon with a strong moralistic bent (at least rhetorically).

We cannot be complacent if Biden wins we must look ahead and get them now. He is scary and he does not care what you think.

(15,124 posts)That's what all those taxpayer funded fancy schmancy dinners were all about. He included some very wealthy potential political donors in those parties. Plus SCOTUS Justices?????
He is dangerous. Let's get him!

(34,111 posts)when I read about that. I am a Kansan and this state knows this jerk inside and out. The Koch brother will do anything for Pompeo and always has. Not only does he have donors lining up he has the backing of Koch industry from his backyard. There is nothing this man would not do to win. He scares the ever loving crap outta me. He is a smart Trump. Think about that.
I ignored him for years, he was not from my part of the state. Bad on me. Not that I could have done much but that was a bad thing to ignore.

(15,124 posts)I'm really glad that this crapola is coming out about him now. Tarnish his brand. Plus, since he is so deeply connected to Trump, that might not be so good either. I am still stunned at the depth of the corruption of these guys. Guess I shouldn't be surprised, but it just keeps coming at us.
Good on you, Kansas for your Dem Governor!

(34,111 posts)fighting one of the worst RW legislatures in the country to keep her powers to run the state through this CV pandemic. They want to take her powers to do that away. She met with Trump yesterday, he liked her.....she is damned smart and I knew he would because she is used to people like him. She is smart but they can and will take from her everything they can get. There are a few moderate R's around but they rarely have much influence. We will see how this goes. I fear Kansas will now open up entirely like nothing ever happened.

(15,222 posts)They feel entitled and since they themselves profess (not saying they actually have) a servants attitude, they expect anyone under them to do whatever they ask.
I live in Texas and no less than three times in my lifetime Ive been forced to work for people like this. That feeling of entitlement is very prevalent and has only been emboldened by Trump.
Please, everyone! We have to take our country back!

(58,785 posts)He must have various memories, not all incidents blocked, of irritations and more serious problems from associating with honest people who didn't fit in, refused to go along or even tried to cause trouble.
But Pompeo's is incredibly arrogant greed, greed for its own sake, abuse of power for the pleasure of it, taking because they can. We'll know how stupid it is if it turns out they can't.
What's been very interesting is those once seeming to be people of integrity and honor while operating in environments requiring that who promptly became astonishingly corrupt when corruption became possible and was rewarded instead.
I read once in an article about criminal personality traits that many successful white collar people who turned to crime, presumably like some flocking to Trump's admin, found achieving gains illegally more satisfying than legally. Also that they were often surprised when finally arrested that they were considered criminals. Lesser people are criminals, not them.

(146,317 posts)Instead of hiring professional movers, which is how such thing should be done, they made people whose jobs are completely different do the work. Government employees and contractors have well-defined job descriptions.
Moving someone's mother is not a federal responsibility in any way. It's easy to hire movers. To use government employees to do the job is an illegal use of government funds.
Period.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)to underlings they abused this way, suggesting even worse attitudes toward the people they're supposed to be serving.
Where would a man who'd have an "official" move his mother's furniture draw the line for others? Try to use national security laws to frame and imprison someone for decades because he reported malfeasance as required? No line at all.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)Trump administration. They all treat federal employees as personal servants, as if they were paying them themselves.
That is why doing so is a violation of the law. Public servants and government employees work for US, not them.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)leadership has become. Their common corruption is just more frequently and obviously blatant in his administration, with media attention on ineptly soaking the public for jet travel and extravagant parties -- instead of congress stealing trillions through many types of transfers of national wealth to the kleptocracy they helped create, including current attempts to transfer pandemic losses from the wealthy to small business and regular people.
