"this is showing the theory of men evolving from apes. I have lost all respect for Dr Pepper and if Dr Pepper wants business from thousands of people they will need to apologize."

Oh wow you guys. Imagine the respect Dr. Pepper would have lost from thousands of people if they shown the germ theory of disease, cell theory, kinetic theory of gases, theory of relativity, theory of plate tectonics, or theory of... (gasp!) gravity.

(796 posts)It is clear that gravity is a fetish promoted by leftists looking for free grant money. I mean, they cannot even explain with a single simple fact as to why there are two high tides every day.
If there is some damnable universal theory of gravity--not mentioned in the Bible nor Qu'ran--then universal health care and other moral decay will follow.

(35,091 posts)I have seen some even call the big bang "cosmological evolution", not to mention the idea that 'we came from monkeys' totally denigrates their belief that we came from dust.
You can believe in God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, Vishnu, Shiva, and the Tooth Fairy and you can still recognize evolution as science.

(10,274 posts)Either/Or thinking is the only kind. But, in reality, True Spiritual Enlightenment (for those who believe in such things) is a product of Both/And Thinking (ask any Buddhist). God CAN exist, AND so can Science. Leaving the former and arriving at the latter is Journey of sorts (in ancient stories and Parables, you had to go out into "The Wilderness" , and when you come back, and people ask you what you found out there, almost every time, the answer is something akin to "The Devil".
"WELL. That sure as hell sounds like somewhere I should avoid at ALL COSTS. Don't want any of that Evil Temptation happening to MY soul, no-sir-ee."
The people who aren't afraid of the Devil go into The Wilderness. When they come back, they are hailed as Brothers/Sisters/Fellows by others who have attempted the Journey, and understand.
And the chicken-shits who stayed the fuck home eventually try to have them killed.
I hope that helps...

Really, that is the end of the discussion.

(13,485 posts)1. First god created light
2. Then he separates water from land
3. Then he calls for trees and plants to give fruit
4. Then he created the sun and moon
Makes a whole lot of sense! Sounds like reasonable evolution to me!
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)until you get to the part where God created man in his own image. And you just can't get the anti-evolution religious people to look past that. Not with all the fossil evidence in the world.
But I also don't see why someone cannot believe in God and evolution without a problem.

(2,577 posts)Okay in Genesis, God creates the earth in SEVEN DAYS. (Now the actual order God uses differs between the account in Genesis 1 and Genesis 2, but don't bring that up with fundies. It's messy when their heads explode.)
Now fundies take the bible literally ... all words in it are FACTUAL and perfect (cuz they're from God and all). NOTE: Commands by Jesus about caring for the least of these and loving one another .... apparently NOT taken literally ... but I digress.
Since Genesis says seven DAYS including day and night, the world had to come to be in seven calendar days (although I doubt the ancient people of Israel actually used our calendar, but I digress yet again)
If the bible says that God created in earth in seven days, there's no way there could have been evolution over millions of years. God SAID seven days. Get that?
And if you don't take EVERY WORD of the bible literally (except for all the stuff about love and sharing with each other) then you don't love God.

(322 posts)The power and popularity of the literal reading of the Bible. It just seems like such an incongruous and fallacious document that I forget people actually do take it at face value. When you take it at face value, there's really no room for anything else.

(50,562 posts)During the Reagan Eighties, the federal government found that the Iraqi engineer who designed Moammar Khadafy's chemical weapons plant had also invested $5 million in a cherry-flavoring plant in Boca Raton, Florida...because the pits have cyanide in them and they were going to extract the cyanide from the pits, package it as cherry flavoring and ship it to Libya.
Fortunately, the evil federal government got involved and stopped it before it got going good.

(10,745 posts)...of this one small part of mainstream evolution theory, that is, the "men evolved from apes" belief, I'm also somewhat distressed by the fact that these people have been all too willing to discard ALL science over one tiny disagreement. It's like an 8-year-old being told a story about an uncle fighting in Vietnam, and when he finds out that his uncle may not have actually jumped over a landmine to save a village toddler, then he may begin to believe that everything else may be false, too, even if the rest of the story is indeed accurate.

(62,444 posts)We are animals.
We are vertebrates.
We are mammals.
We are primates.
We are hominids.
We are Homo Sapiens, the species of the hominids which awarded itself with "self awareness, perhaps prematurely.
These are all accurate things to say. We can go back further, and broader, to say we are carbon based life forms.
And all carbon based life forms share fundamental chemical processes which, along with other evidence, is utterly most simply and with an extremely high level of probability due to having a common origin, or at least separate origins of precursors which have merged into a single ecosystem to the extent that all living things today are, for all intents and purposes, correctly stated to be of common origin.
There is simply no rational dispute of this fact which screams its obviousness from the sum of our observations of nature.
Humanist_Activist
