Seems like so much of our population has been "television episoded" or "socially networked" to think that none of this is real - they are all just part of some exciting reality TV episode - and enough time has gone by (and the enemy is invisible, anyway) that it is time to just go back to normal. The show is over.
Maybe it is because I am a scientist, and understand how scientific discoveries progress (and the time they take, and how the outcomes evolve with time and more and better info) - but this is simply insanity - all of the reopening, all of the ignoring of science and scientifically determined facts.
Once again - and daily - I remind myself that what we are witnessing is a death cult of trump (and hate radio and hate TV and apathy) inspired ignorance. It is breathtaking (and will end up being literally breathtaking for so many more).
Human beings - often our own worst enemy. Clearly some of our features are indeed bugs.
One more thing - when has there been such utter pride in flouting absolute stupidity? I thought the Dubya phase was bad. It is but a blip compared to the current mass unmasking of absolute willful ignorance.

(3,741 posts)or poorly educated, as trump would say. Well they also have no intellectual life. A symptom of that is that they can't stay home, stay safe because they are empty shells that have to keep consuming ... haircuts, bars, shopping malls, gyms. We want our 'freedom.'
Ad nauseam ... FREEDOM FROM THEMSELVES is more the motivation.

(33,194 posts)The premise of the story was that if someone displayed a talent or skill the law required that they be handicapped to match the least able in that area... Or sometimes the mean if the subject was only of a slightly above normal ability.
For instance, a star high-jumper would have a weight shackled to his/her leg to keep them at the pace of everyone else.
When I first read the story I thought it was an outlandish scheme, but, now it's the daily grind.
