Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe vaccine propaganda campaign, fairy tale, bullshit, will be told everyday until the election.
When it come to creating a vaccine, there is this thing called history. It takes years just to properly test a vaccine. There are no shortcuts, period. If you take shortcuts there is no way to know if it's safe.
If you believe there will be safe vaccine by the end of the year, go ahead and take it. I will watch and you can let me know how things turn out.

(33,391 posts)That function of the Federal Government is not gutted yet.
You are correct in that there will be fairy tale bullshit about a vaccine through the election, and probably the remainder of our lives.
"Libs are preventing the vaccine from getting approval to hurt Trump".
and simultaneously
"Libs want you to get vaccinated so Bill Gates can 5G George Soros blue-green algae in your contrails".

(12,286 posts)I have my doubts about them getting a successful vaccine.
I think the press likes to sell us false hopes.

(16,445 posts)Are you saying there shouldnt be attempts to produce a vaccine, or are you proposing the media be barred from covering those attempts and the work on vaccine development be done in secret?

(10,749 posts)My 2 cents.
I'm perfectly happy for the media to cover whatever they want to cover. Full Stop.
But let's at least demand that they be honest. We know, for example, that Fox and it's camp followers in the "news" biz cannot be counted on to report honestly. So as long as we can trust the reporting from other mainstream and science sources, keep the reporting coming.
The point with my post, and the answer I thought I would receive (and did), is that this reporting ought at least to make the observations that successes with previous novel coronaviruses have been nil to low. They should then explain why we might expect vaccine successes with this virus. And if that means a vaccine is not really going to be available and/or that it's not going to be a long-term solution, then report that, and then ask whether resources might be better allocated to treatment so that good outcomes (not dying) are brought to the same level as the "usual" seasonal flu.
I know, too much to ask.

(12,165 posts)There have been countless, breathless articles about finding promising HIV vaccines and cancer cures for most of my life. I used to get excited about the HIV articles about vaccines because a good friend contracted HIV before it became a manageable condition.
None of them panned out. They may lead to treatments or contribute to incremental progress, but most of the time pharma companies announce these miracles to get a stock bump or government funding.
Ill believe it when there is a real vaccine available and not just vapor ware.
