Scoop: Trump leans toward keeping total cut to WHO funding

42 mins ago - Health

Jonathan Swan

President Trump is leaning toward preserving his total funding cut for the World Health Organization after being on the brink of announcing he'd restore partial funding, according to three sources familiar with the situation. A fourth source, a senior administration official, cautioned that the decision-making was fluid and was still subject to change.

Behind the scenes: Trump spent his weekend at Camp David with some of his closest Republican allies in the House of Representatives. A source familiar with the private discussions said that House members at Camp David pressed Trump "to not give a dime to WHO."

A second source familiar with the situation at Camp David qualified the first source's remarks by saying, "That's where the president's head is at as well. So it was more reaffirming his position."

The big picture: Last month, Trump shocked the world by announcing he was freezing U.S. funding to the WHO, pending an investigation into the global health agency and its handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Trump has eviscerated the organization, describing it as controlled by China and grossly negligent in the early days of the outbreak. He has also used the issue to deflect from criticisms of his own handling of the virus.

But those of us informed know the the truth that if we took the WHO’s testing protocol and started testing immediately we would not be where we are now.

We’re #1 in deaths! I won’t be surprised if MF45 starts touting that in his brain damaged state.

filthy socialism don't you know. We have all seen how the hyper-individualistic approach has worked here with COVID.

Not to mention the international committee, agreements, treaties, trigger the fn paranoid a holes and the conspiracy theories fly.

Cognitively and morally stunted the lot of them.

What is it WHO did that made him hate it?
They distributed a test that he refused for the US, a test that helped other countries avoid what consumed us, this epidemic.
He can never forgive that the WHO showed him up, even though there was no intention there. The fact that the WHO has helped save millions of people over decades of dedicated work-- what does he care? It's not about him.

It's like his hating the post office. Why? His people will talk about, I don't know, socialism (Take that, USPS founder Ben Franklin) or unions or what's good for FedEx.
Truth is, Trump hates the post office because-- this is it-- they deliver packages from Amazon which was founded by Jeff Bezos, hated by Trump because he owns the Washington Post (and probably because Bezos is a legitimate billionaire).

This narrow, narcissic, selfish little snake is our president.

In their pea brains it should be privatized. Privatized to maximize the politicians ability to peddle influence and contracts.

"Here's the Ming vase. It's not my vase, but I got it, and so it IS my vase! And because I DON'T CARE about this vase, I can just drop it if I want to. See? I'm holding it with one finger! Oh, okay, maybe I will hold it in one hand, and maybe I won't drop it. Maybe I'll just break off a piece of it here! Ha, ha, I own you libs, because YOU CARE ABOUT THIS. And I don't, so I have all the power, because I'm willing to destroy everything you care about."

Yeah, we care about health. We care about the organization that tries to improve health all over the world. We care about ourselves and each other.

Trump believes love weakens us and hate strengthens him.

And about half the voters still support him in all his venality and carelessness and ugliness and contempt.
