(4,619 posts)In the beginning there wasn't enough PPE. Masks. The powers that be could have still made it mandatory to cover your face if you went out with 100 different semi-useful things.
Only in America are there so many stupid people who care nothing for their neighbors, and literally their families.
Sad.

(18,663 posts)Have to go to the grocery. I'll have my mask and a properly concealed pistol.
At 5 feet an unmasked person will get a warning. At 4feet I will produce my pistol. At 3 feet I will give a final warning and if they step closer I will fire.
Can I count on you to have my back and support my actions? That you will speak up to say I was acting in self-defense?

(12,165 posts)That way, I could mark my zone.
Plus, I think it would be wonderful to walk around in a hoop skirt and wearing a matching mask.
I am not kidding.

(2,840 posts)OK, then.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)it seems to me. Which laws do you think should be enforced and which should not? I tend to be a public safety sort of guy. I'm in favor of laws that promote that, you see.
Really, though, I didn't propose anything at all. I merely replied to another DUer with a question, which has gone unanswered.
And then, you come back at me with the "Police State" thing. I don't believe I have ever been in a discussion with you, so I don't know much about where you are coming from.
I did not advocate for any particular laws or enforcement actions. I asked a question.
Seeking Serenity
(2,840 posts)the more police seem to take.
And to give police the authority to regulate things and behaviour in the name of "public health"? That's more power than a good man should want or that a bad man should have.

(22,357 posts)populations bear the brunt. Poor, BIPOC and disabled people would be targeted, because they always are when policing is increased, no matter the initiative. A felony charge would increase incarceration, which would result in putting more people in prison, which are already hot spots. The carceral state is a vector for pandemics.

(15,624 posts)So youd put all violators in prison? Doesnt really make sense.
Other countries seem to be able to enforce masks and distancing without locking folks up.

(2,840 posts)as their fines, interest, fees and penalties continue to mount to where they'll be hard-pressed to climb out? "Well, they shouldn't have done it (whatever petty offence "it" is)."
Very, very compassionate. Or no, wrong word. Oh what is it?
Oh, yes -- authoritarian.
roamer65
(36,745 posts)You know that.
Fines for breaking laws are light years different than financial hardship.
Apples to oranges and courts get lenient in those situations, anyway.

Actually its not funny its disgusting. Fear is exactly what brings policies like stop and frisk. Fear and use of authority to make yourself feel safe is what has given us a bloated for profit prison system.
If you think we need more laws that will be most definitely applied unequally and unfairly, then you need to have a long talk with yourself about your fears.
