Watching President Obamas graduation address tonight I think I finally understand Obamagate. Its the scandal of having a president being able to speak with empathy, humor, insight, inspiration and in complete and coherent sentences.

He thinks things through weighing the various opinions including the other side.
Then he makes his decision.
Trump is incapable of understanding, appreciating or utilizing that process..
Which is why tens or hundreds of thousands of Americans are going to needlessly die from this virus.

(10,011 posts)Many of them are poorly educated and also do not use appropriate grammar or speak in clear, coherent sentences. The anti-intellectual mindset has been around for a long time, as if the beliefs in bad science are just as valid as the beliefs in actual, proven science. I remember a middle school history book teaching that the framers of our Constitution were just farmers like everyone else. No slam on farmers, but most them do not have the education that people like Jefferson and Adams had, including in Jeffersons case years at the French Court. Perhaps somewhere back in the 80s is when the notion started that intellectual competence in our leaders doesnt matter. As in George Ws case, he was someone you could have a beer with. Im not saying that W is stupid because hes not, but he is also not an intellectual in Obamas category. I prefer a president who has the capacity to think and to assimilate facts about the world, but Id also love to sit down and have a beer with Obama!
