On Tuesday, the Simi Valley hilltop overlooking the Pacific Ocean drew visitors for a different reason: curbside voting. At a makeshift polling place outside the shuttered museum, masked voters cast ballots in a special election to fill a vacancy in Californias 25th congressional district.
You can only imagine the Gipper was pleased with the result. For the first time in more than two decades, Republicans in California wrested a seat from Democrats. Mike Garcia, a political novice running as a supporter of President Trump, defeated Assemblywoman Christy Smith, a centrist Democrat, by around 10 percentage points.
The outcome was neither an earth-shattering victory that presages a red wave in the bluest state nor an entirely predictable result of low turnout in a special election destined to be reversed when the two candidates face off again in November. As always, there were circumstances peculiar to the local contest.
On paper, Democrats hold a six-point registration edge, built up over the past four years largely because Republican defectors switched to no party preference. The numbers mask a still-conservative electorate, especially among the most reliable voters. Gov. Gavin Newsom coasted to victory statewide in 2018 over a little-known Republican but carried the 25th district by only two points.

Katie Hill was a star! She won that district by nine points. That's why the cons took her out.

(32,017 posts)She didnt brag about grabbing people by the genitals and then get elected President. That much is true.
If your point is that she should not have resigned, I agree with you.

(4,146 posts)and it should have had NOTHING to do with her resigning. She should have said, "Get your God=damned nose out of my crotch, because Jesus never told me you could put it there" and walked right the fuck off.
Her response should have been that, and "and that's the last time I will speak on this matter"
Instead they told her they wanted to crotch search and she let them.
If that's all it takes, then that's all it took, and she should never run for anything again.

(2,026 posts)That's how I think Bill Clinton should have handled all the various sex allegations against him in the 1990s. Gennifer Flowers, Paula whatsername, Monica Lewinsky. The first time one of these B.S. accusations came up, he should have said, "My private sex life is just that: PRIVATE! It's none of anybody else's business, except maybe my wife's, and I will not lend any legitimacy to inquiries or accusations of that nature by responding to them in any way. Ever." And then he should have stuck to his guns after that, forever. If I could have said one thing to Bill Clinton then, in 1992 during his first campaign for the presidency, if I had happened to share one elevator ride with him, that would have been my advice for him.

(11,354 posts)paying people that probably shouldn't have been on the payroll. Don't have anything against the woman .. and she could well have been a great addition to the party. But she was asked to leave because SHE got herself into a white hot mess (either through arrogance, naivety or lack of awareness) and no amount of scrubbing or disinfectant was going to make it go away.
You can't blame the Rs for a hit job when you supplied the bullets.
