Every so often, Trump admits why his administration has dragged its feet for so long on tests. They don't want to know the truth. They can't handle the truth. Cover-ups are now a routine feature of the Federal Government.

During remarks on Thursday at the Owens & Minor distribution center in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Trump tried to downplay the severity of the USs coronavirus outbreak by arguing the country wouldnt be leading the world in cases if it werent for the fact that so much testing is being done here as if coronavirus cases simply wouldnt exist if we didnt test to find them.
Dont forget, we have more cases than anybody in the world. But why? Because we do more testing, Trump said. When you test, you have a case. When you test, you find something is wrong with people. If we didnt do any testing, we would have very few cases. They the media dont want to write that.
It stands to reason that conducting more tests correlates with finding more cases but thats a good thing. More testing helps public health experts and policymakers understand the full scope of the problem, isolate those who have tested positive, and then trace their contacts to help contain potential outbreaks. But for Trump, the downside is it undercuts his argument that its already safe for states to lift stay-at-home orders that are hurting the economy and therefore hurting his reelection hopes.

(11,738 posts)It is difficult to imagine that he doesn't understand how testing works, I mean he is intellectually lazy so it is likely that he is that stupid. In his simple head, more testing equals more cases and more cases equals bad news, so less testing equals less cases which equals good news.
Where the disconnect is for people with typical intelligence and/or a sense of right and wrong is that less information about cases does not mean less cases. It just means we know less. Ignorance is not bliss. For Trump however, who is malicious in the sense that "winning" is more important than people's lives, Ignorance means a win at that moment.
Trump is simple to figure out, but his ability for malice, ignorance, and self dealing are difficult to accept to people with any kind of moral compass.
Trump is less interested in long term victory then he is at escaping humiliation in the moment and having small victories in the current news cycle.
I have said before that Trump is merely trying to out run his ultimate destruction. Unfortunately he has America along for the ride and as he fails, we get hurt.
