We Like It the Old Way: Trump Mocks Social Distancing, Denounces Testing as Overrated in Pennsylvania Speech

President Donald Trump flew to Allentown, Pennsylvania Thursday afternoon, where he visited the Owens & Minor medical supply facility, which makes personal protective equipment. As usual he delivered a speech and as usual, he undercut the CDC guidelines designed to keep Americans safe from the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
During his speech the President mocked and disparaged social distancing efforts and all but denounced testing, seeing both as remnants signaling the pandemic is still present. (In fact, the curve is flattening, but in comparison to many other countries, is not really going down.)
But we like it the old way, Trump continued, as if to admonish himself for praising the audience for literally taking life-saving measures. A little bit better, dont we?
Well be back, well be back to that soon, I think, I really believe it.
Later during his speech, which was an official White House taxpayer-funded trip yet laced with partisan rhetoric including attacks on his presumptive opponent, Joe Biden, and the press, Trump disparaged the very idea of coronavirus testing.

(100,100 posts)Look nobody hates social distancing more than I do, but I don't want this to end with a 1/2 million of us dying and if the current projection rates are going that way, we may hit easily 1/2 that number by Labor Day. Keep it up, Donny Douchebag.

(31,261 posts)We have already heard that tactic coming from his loyalists like DeSantis. So, if covid19 is routing red states as November approaches, it will be the New York governor's fault, or California's fault, and red state voters will eat that nonsense up, even with relatives dying from covid19.

(31,261 posts)while we take the other half. Split the country in half with a north-south line, we take the east half or west half, I really don't give a shit, they take the other half. People moving to a country would have hard assets in the country they are leaving purchased at fair market value.
Once the split happens, the red country could do whatever they want, any blue person foolish enough to stay there will have to live under their rule. We would run our country as we see a just society run.

(100,100 posts)Ragnarok of course was the complete destruction of Asguard. And it wasn't so much trying to prevent Ragnarok, but rather trying to cause it.
Let's face it, the GOP has been trying to cause the systematic destruction of the US since the days of Nixon. Coronavirus may just finish the job for them.

(31,261 posts)even more serious governing problems, even worse than Trump, if that is imaginable. What we have is a hard core of 30% of Americans that have totally bought into the concept of white Christian nationalism, they really aren't willing to even consider anything else as being legitimate. We have people that willingly and openly threaten violence against those that they disagree with, even duly elected public officials. This situation can't last.

(100,100 posts)Marching up to the state capital threatening to murder the government because President Moron told them to "liberate" the state, you might as well just pack it in. I want to believe that we'll elect Joe Biden and we might restore some hope and sanity to this country but that's a long road that needs to be built.

(31,261 posts)My guess is Trump had customers put pressure on the plant to allow the visit. I am guessing workers and management could have done without him, if not, why would he have been asked not to visit a few days ago.
That is the same plant where some workers stayed at the plant for like 24 days to build enough materials to supply N95 mask makers.

(11,744 posts)If masks and testing are unnecessary, then why after a few months, is Trump himself requiring White House staff to test daily and wear masks.
I thought Conservatives didn't like people who talked the talk, but didn't walk the walk?

(497 posts)that it makes my government in Australia look half competent. My government is corrupt with scandals happening all the time. Our prime minister chose to take his family on a holiday to Hawaii while the southern part of my state was on fire. As a matter of fact, it came within 2 kms of my home.
However since covid-19 happened they managed to get on top of it almost immediately. We have a population of 25 million which is roughly 1/9th of the US, but we have only lost about 98 lives and the stay-at-home orders are just starting to be gradually lifted. So the worse your government acts, the better it makes my government look and thats not good for Australia's future, so I'm hoping that all of you can get rid of that excuse for a human in November.
