His behavior is now being described as akin to what despots do as they run their governments and countries (into the ground).

So viewed through that filter, in contact with that background knowledge and observation of his behavior and what he can be expected to do and say, in reaction.

It's been three-and-a-half years, friends. He ain't no newby. Especially when we look at a track record of his behavior over years, scandals, bankruptcies, scummy "deals," promises made and broken, lies told, and other hallmarks of UNCLEANLINESS.

The overall impression that this leads to, and leaves you with, is that this is a scummy guy. Sneaky and duplicitous and ONLY in it for himself. The lies. The blaming. The distractions. The shifting stories. The manipulations. He's a master of the chess game from Hell. But hopefully we have one or two on OUR side, to know what to do and what exact defensive tactics/technicques/strategies to use or dream up to defeat it and deflect the blows coming from him.

They tried to teach this stuff in karate class. Watch the behavior of the opponent. Watch what they do - kinda easy since you don't talk in karate school. The instructor talks and explains, and you spar. Watch what they do. It might help you anticipate their next move, and be ready to deflect or otherwise handle the next blow coming from the opponent. Focus. But don't forget what's in your peripheral vision!
