Wisconsins Supreme Court rejected the extension of a stay-at-home order by Gov. Tony Evers on Wednesday, siding with Republicans in a high-profile challenge of the emergency authority of a statewide official during the coronavirus pandemic.
Mr. Evers, a Democrat, had extended the prohibition on most travel and operations of nonessential businesses until May 26. But in a 4-to-3 ruling, the court said that the measure had exceeded the authority given to Wisconsins top health official under state law.
An agency cannot confer on itself the power to dictate the lives of law-abiding individuals as comprehensively as the order does without reaching beyond the executive branchs authority, the justices wrote.
The ruling, a spokeswoman for Mr. Evers said, appears to immediately end all provisions that have required Wisconsin residents to stay home. Were definitely concerned, Melissa Baldauff, the spokeswoman said, of the safety and health of residents.

(17,636 posts)Thank you Mr. Carville.
The Republicans get it, the Democrats have not. We are going to have to pull hair, bite and use our fingernails to correct the situation. If we do not regain the power in November, after the disastrous Trump presidency, then, as a The Democratic party and a progressive philosophy, we and the ideals we stand for, will be finished.
Right now, we are holding on by our fingernails.

(14,167 posts).... to be blazing red hot like it was before the virus. That way Donnie Pandemic can be assured a second term in the Oval.
Who gives a shit how many deaths occur if testing for the virus and quarantining those sick - is not fully in place before the grand reopening of the economy. People die all the time,... they are expendable. Look the other way and ignore the virus deaths. trDumpie needs a booming economic outlook come November.

(3,282 posts)You could open every business in the country tomorrow and the economy wouldn't come back. You can't have a strong economy when 2/3 of the population say they aren't comfortable being in a crowd.
I wouldn't change anything about what I'm doing right now if my state suddenly opened. I wouldn't be eating in a restaurant, going to a movie, seeing a concert, catching a game, taking a vacation, none of it. I'll still be doing pickup for groceries, so no going in the store and buying extra things that the stores count on to make their money. This isn't a sudden recovery event, this is going to be with us until there is a way to effectively keep people safe. Republicans don't want to put in the work to achieve that, instead they want to believe in magic.

(38,187 posts)now, because Republicans will keep taking it through the courts until they get their way? I believe that is what they intend to do in every state.
We live in such a fucked up country. It will never make sense. Republicans will never allow this country to be great in the first place. How can they claim to want to make it great "again?" As long as Republicans exist in America, America can never reach its full potential and be great.

(2,356 posts)When will the stench of Scott Walker stop being toxic for Wisconsin? The Wisconsin Supreme Court (SC) was always in Repuke peril.
With even more work, Democrats can keep inching their way in, as they have so far. Thank goodness, AND great candidates.
Certainly, another Dem primary win for SC (same two candidates face off in Nov.). Technically, WI SC candidates run as nonpartisan.

just announced their own safer at home emergency order 10 minutes ago which goes until the 26th. I feel a bit safer....Even if its only for a brief time.
But like our Governor stated now we have 72 different rules to deal with. Each County is on its own.
And were open for business for people from Illinois and Minnesota.....
Im so pissed!
