So, I've been getting my food via Instacart delivery for the past two months. Ever since the masking requirements were released for my county, all Instacart shoppers have been wearing mask and gloves when they deliver to us. Except today. This was of concern to me since we are in the senior demographic. (NB: We always accept deliveries wearing mask and gloves.)
When I reviewed my order and rated the delivery, I commented that the shopper was not masked. I received a reply from Instacart stating that they "dont have a policy requiring shoppers to wear gloves or masks at this time".
So, I recall a strike day for delivery workers, including those from Instacart, requesting protective gear during the pandemic. I refrained from ordering that day in support of their initiative. My county (in the SF Bay Area) has masking requirements. I'm at a loss to understand why someone would not, at this time, be wearing a mask when making deliveries.
Does it seem like Instacart's policy is contrary to county policy? I am wondering if Instacart is not providing protective gear to their shoppers, and have formed their internal policy around inability of civilians to promptly obtain medical/surgical masks and gloves? I mean, dude could at least have worn a bandana, if nothing else.

(14,446 posts)I was considering a food delivery service, but I think I'll stay with going to the grocery story early in the morning.

(51,308 posts)Theyve been great.
The workers are all wearing gloves and masks. They even have the 7am-8am time slot for 60+ or other at-risk groups.

(16,903 posts)you two options: Wait for the delivery date, or pick-up service which is quick and easy.
We've been opting for pickup service lately.. it works! Our only complaint is that sometimes they don't have what we ordered.

(21,596 posts)He has a mental illness, he has no car, and he has been verbally abusive to both my child and the neighbors children for years now, among other anti-social behaviors. We never speak with this person unless hes being verbally abusive and frightening the children.
Anyway, he apparently lost his job at local restaurant and recently got hired by Instacart. He must do the shopping for pick up service or for someone else to deliver.
He smokes and has cats. I observe him walking to work immediately after smoking and after petting a cat. He does not wash his hands before leaving for work.
He doesnt social distance with several of our neighbors who also refuse to social distance. We avoid any contact with these neighbors. The other day, my child saw Instacart neighbor and an HVAC service guy shake hands with bare hands.
I have no idea if he has to properly wash his hands and wear a mask and gloves at work.
I would not use the Instacart service based on these observations.

(9,074 posts)And gloves and have been terrific. Every one of the delivery people has represented the company well.
I have them leave the groceries outside. I just open my door so they know I'm here then close it and talk through it to them to thank them for a job well done.

(10,204 posts)Since the mask requirements were put into place, all my shoppers have worn mask and gloves, except for this guy. We'll see what happens with next week's order.
