Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDo you think we will ever know what the hell all the blackmail is that is making republicans so
so ridiculously evil? I really want to know what it is. Are there individual dossiers on each one of them? Just what the hell is it? What ever it is, it must be really really bad.

(4,858 posts)...and yes, we probably will know--but not for a generation or two. There are a couple of obvious names that have been brought up more-or-less publicly. A relative of mine who works in one of the intelligence agencies--yes, the "Deep State"--told me off the record that there are more.

(52,236 posts)I think they just figure their political career is over if they are deemed anti-trump. There doesn't seem to be any room in the Republican Party for that.

(1,154 posts)It's money. The Russian mob has been laundering money through the RNC, and they've been doing it for years. The RNC funnels the money to the individual republican politico's, and like magic, they are all DIRTY. Simple and effective as hell.

(25,980 posts)Also back during the run up to the 2016 election, the DNC and RNC email servers were hacked. Some of the DNC emails were leaked. The RNC dirt was held back but is likely still quite juicy.

(19,837 posts)The Democrats as a group have been good at pushing back and giving them hassles. Even the folks like Manchin (from a conservative state) generally will do the right thing when push comes to shove. But everyone's got something they'd like to avoid sharing with the world and which could be exploited so why wouldn't whoever's supposedly blackmailing Republicans also do so to any Democrats they had something on?
Wouldn't that make life easier?

(4,395 posts)Whoever is holding the dirt is using it to drive out Democrats they don't like and keep in Republicans they can get to toe the line.

(19,837 posts)I'm talking about Democrats that getting compromised like republicans and just go along/get along, maybe voice a token Collins-type concern then quietly and conveniently step out of the way.

(17,006 posts)I think they are insanely greedy and addicted to wealth and power. Just the thought of losing any of either is enough to cause a full panic attack.

(68,576 posts)more than a 100 years they have attempted to make life harder for working people. They are scum...their ideology is cruel and always was. And even Rockefeller Republicans were racist as hell and wanted to control women.

(4,395 posts)Those are the ones I think are being blackmailed.
They may not have intrinsically noble motivations but they are self-motivated not to look ridiculous in public and they would avoid contradicting themselves or saying blatantly stupid lies that undermine their own credibility if they could.

(3,256 posts)They love appointees they have control over. Even if the wrongdoing is manufactured sometimes a plausible accusation is enough to scare the hell out of a lot of people. There is an old story about Lyndon Johnson accusing his opponenet of having sex with a pig. One of his campaign said "Lyndon you can't say that." Lyndon says "Oh hell, I just wanted to hear him deny it". The story may not be true, but think what lengths the crazy and rich supporters will go to destroy anyone who displeases them. There is a ton of money to be made legally by being a toady through speaking fees, jobs for spouses, sweet business deals, etc. but I also think for every carrot there is a stick.
Lock him up.

(16,685 posts)This is what the Republican Party has become over the past few decades. The only difference between Trump and other Republicans is the crudeness and crassness ... no dog whistles.
Solomon
(12,310 posts)play golf with Trump, or meet him, and then suddenly suck his ass like there's no tomorrow? Have you forgotten how many republicans were appalled by him in the beginning, who suddenly did an about face after meeting with him.
No no. I remain convinced that something very nefarious is afoot.
I'm 65 years old. I remember when yes, we vociferously disagreed with republicans, but they still paid lip service to Americn principles, and morals etc. Today they are off the chain. Something is amiss.

(12,310 posts)happened in 2000. The switch to electronic voting bothered me tremendously as I instinctively felt that now it's all a matter of software and the ability to hack.
All of a sudden the polls, including exit polls became unreliable. And the Supreme Court of the world's preeminent democracy said, "don't count the votes"!! Don't count the fucking votes!
There is never a legitimate reason to not count the votes.
