"I've never thought of government as something I belong to," says Ryan, who has been a congressman since he was 28.

You are responsible for the current condition of the country.
You can't retire retroactively from government.

He has been in government since like 1990 (?) as a college student ...... over 50 % of his life he has been
in government and as an adult (past 18) he has been in government for 88% of his life.

The guy that has been on the government payroll for more than half his life ... doesn't think of himself as a part of government ...
Sheriff joe arpaio ... who doesn't believe that racial profiling exists, training his staff on how not to profile ...
conservative business owners don't believe that the government creates jobs, while 80% of their revenues derive from government contracts ...
To hell with "What's The Matter With Kansas" ... What's the matter with all of America, that we allow this craziness continue?

They are delusional. That's bad enough.
But they also have power to back those delusions up.
We could go to the base who has less power but they are just as delusional.

(18,641 posts)Same reasoning... Unemployment checks, welfare, and the SNAP program must be a public sector bailout we earned instead of government largess.
Right Paul, or is it different when someone else is cashing those federal checks?

(10,893 posts)The entire party always touts "limited government is best" and that "government doesn't create jobs" while they're the ones who run for government positions. And they're the ones who want to dictate the sex lives of women and gay people. Whether they like it or not, the Reds all receive government benefits despite demonizing them, such as how Paul Ryan received SS and how Scott Brown had one of his daughters on government health care.
Luckily for them, about half of the country is dense enough to tolerate this fallacy.

(50,562 posts)My dad worked for the government for 40 years. Every day he would go in and do good things for the citizens of this country.
Paul Ryan goes to a big building in Washington and throws temper tantrums...for which the citizens pay him $165,000 per year. There is a difference.

(37,161 posts)Real quickie timeline of Ryan's adult life (going by dates in Wikipedia, so not exact)
1988-1992: ~4 years student @ public university: ~16%
1993-1997: ~4 years congressional staffer and conservative political org employee: ~16%
1997-1998: ~1 year as consultant for relatives company: ~4%
1998: ~1 year running for House seat: ~4%
1999-2012: ~13 years Member of the US House of Representatives ~54%
As long as I'm doing quick calculations, let's note that Ryan has been in congress for a year more than Ted Kennedy at the same age. Some Mr. "I'm not the government" Ryan is, eh?

Could they get any more ridiculous? That deserves a skit on SNL.
Longtime Congressman never thought of himself as part of the US Government.
What did he think he was a part of??
Let's hope the people will share his views in the next election and give the job to someone who at least knows where they are and who they are working for.
I bet he took those Government checks and benefits though.

Of course he doesn't think of government as something he belongs to ... because then he would actually CARE about what he was doing and put some effort into supporting all the hurting people in his district.
Government is something you use selfishly for your own ends because you are entitled.

b) Three-hour marathoners
c)The list of future Vice Presidents
Now the question:
Name 3 other things Ryan doesn't belong to
