FLIPPABLE: Andrew Rodriguez for CA-AD55

Andrew Rodriguez is a lifelong resident of the City of Walnut and the 55th State Assembly District. He currently serves on the Walnut City Council as Mayor. When sworn-in, Andrew was the youngest councilman serving in Los Angeles County. During his term, Mayor Rodriguez and the City Council have balanced the city's budget annually, completed a general plan land use update for the first time in forty years, and have worked with law enforcement to bring crime down in the city. He has been an advocate for more housing using smart growth strategies for the city. In 2019, Walnut was ranked as one of the financially healthiest cities in California by the State Controller's Office.

Born and raised in Walnut, Andrew attended public schools from Kindergarten through high school. He graduated Cum Laude from Rutgers University in New Jersey with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Minor in Planning and Public Policy. During his time at Rutgers, Andrew worked on several political campaigns, including Newark Mayor Cory Booker’s successful U.S. Senate bid. Andrew found his passion for municipal management at Rutgers, gaining valuable experience working for a non-profit redevelopment corporation dealing with urban revitalization issues in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He also worked for a public affairs firm in New York City, with clients in both the private and public sectors.

Andrew returned home after earning his degree and completed an AmeriCorps service year, assisting high school students in Los Angeles. He received a Masters of Real Estate Development from the University of Southern California and worked as a land use planner for a firm in the San Gabriel Valley.

In his spare time, Andrew enjoys traveling and reading. He has visited almost all fifty states and has traveled abroad extensively. He is a Los Angeles County Small Business Commissioner, serves on several non-profit boards, and is a member of the Urban Land Institute, Strong Towns and other land use organizations.
