FLIPPABLE: Chris Stanley for OH-HD59

Chris Stanley is a husband to a talented educator, Morgan, a father to three vivacious daughters, Rylee (16), Olivia (13), Lylah (8), and one charming little boy, Samuel (5). He is also the owner of Teddy Roosevelt the Dog and Ringo Stella the Cat. He graduated from Ohio Dominican University with a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Social Studies Education and a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, which he uses on a daily basis in his job as a 7th and 8th grade social studies teacher for Youngstown City Schools.

Stanley’s experience in the field of education is extensive and diverse. He began in 2006 by accepting a position as a substitute teacher for South-Western City Schools and Upper Arlington City Schools before accepting a position as an 8th grade social studies teacher for the Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow.

In 2010, Stanley accepted a role as an adjunct professor of History and Political Science at Ohio Dominican University, teaching courses such as U.S. Constitutional Law, Justice, Rights, Liberties, and The American Presidency, among others, in a role that he held for four years.

During the 2011-2012 school year, Stanley was hired by the Ohio History Connection as a creative writer for the state-wide 8th grade supplemental textbook, creating primary source based lessons that were aligned to Common Core standards.

In 2015 Stanley accepted a position as a Program Manager of Research and Education at ACUHO-I, an international student affairs association at the Ohio State University. After a year, Stanley returned to the Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow as a Cross-Curricular Coordinator, creating original educational videos and events. His time at ECOT came to a close when the school was abruptly shut down, opening his eyes to what the charter system had become in the state of Ohio and instilling in him a new determination that the only way forward for the future of Ohio was to ensure that the state directed policy and resources into creating the strongest public school system in the United States.
As a lifelong learner, Stanley has always been committed to refining his professional craft through professional development. Through grants such as Teaching American History and the National Endowment for the Humanities, Stanley has been selected to participate from 2009-2017 in competitive federal programs such as Hands on History, where he rose to serve as Master Teacher in charge of the 2012-2013 Middle School Cohort.

In 2015 Stanley co-founded a publishing company called Jump Splash Books, creating children’s books that focus on the wonder and the power of imagination. His first book, The Tree Watcher, which he wrote and illustrated, won a spot on the Gittle List as one of the top-ten Indie children’s books of the year. With five titles to his name (and counting) Stanley enjoys spending time traveling around the state doing author/illustrator visits to local schools, where the smile on the student’s faces encourage him to keep writing.

In 2017 Stanley became involved in Youngstown-area business, becoming the Vice President of Operations for the Whistle & Keg, LLC. His duties of managing the staff, overseeing financial operations, event campaigns, and working with government and other local business associates provided invaluable experience into the cross section of community/business relations. Always with education on the brain, however, Stanley took a side job with Prodigy Student Travel in 2018, becoming an educational tour guide to Washington, D.C. for students in school districts throughout Ohio, a position that he continues to enjoy to this day. While still involved with the Whistle & Keg, Stanley stepped back from his operations role in the fall of 2019 in order to refocus on K-12 education.

Chris Stanley has an exciting vision for the 59th District that includes improving public education, attracting new businesses and good-paying jobs, and making sure our local governments have the resources needed to provide vital services and keep our families and neighborhoods safe.

Your support will help bring vibrant new leadership to the Ohio House.
