Because as stupid as they are, they still weren't stupid enough to throw the election to the other side just because they didn't like the candidate who won the nomination.

(9,350 posts)The question is do they have the numbers to hold the Democratic Party hostage. It does not seem like there is anything progressive senators can to do hold up the Senate. They cannot hold a filibuster because they do not seem to have the numbers to prevent a cloture vote. It seems that the only thing progressives can do in the House is to vote against legislation in an attempt to prevent the legislation from getting the votes to pass. However, even in that situation it seems they do not have enough votes. The only other option they seem to have is to vote Nancy Pelosi out as Speaker and put in a progressive as Speaker. It seems they also do not have the votes to do either of those things.

(11,001 posts)Sojourner Truth and Shirley Chisholm. I doubt it very seriously. I still have visions of her throwing a tantrum because she could not speak at the Democratic Convention. She is vocal like Diamond and Silk and also very disruptive. Bitter. This is MY view of her.

(37,160 posts)1) Democrats are sane. If the strategy didn't work, things would still be ok;
2) They had money. Lots and lots of money from backers with enough wealth to insulate them as the world burns around them (or at least they think so).

(35,441 posts)It's common for some to say that Tea Party took over the Republican party, but that's not true. The Republican establishment used the Tea Party for their agenda.
For example, the Tea party demanded a balanced budget. After a Republican president and congress, is the budget balanced? Did spending decline? No and no.
In reality the Tea Party just didn't want a Black president, and the Republican establishment used their energy to enact all the policies that it wanted, lower corporate taxes and conservative judges.
