It's obvious that the lesson the Retrumplicans learned from Watergate was
Never admit you're wrong.
If the Rule of Law is against you, destroy it.
If your party leader has been caught doing criminal shit, destroy law enforcement.
If you've elected an inhuman monster, normalize him.
If the majority of Americans want your leader to be defeated, make sure minority rule is ensconced in "law".
If you lost the midterm election by 9 percentage points, ignore it.
Never surrender!
Never admit you were wrong!
Never show weakness!
Never show empathy!
If the majority of the country is against your policies, find a foreign power that will support you.
You must NEVER do anything to anger the King.
Retrumplicans are like criminals who got caught red-handed, and the only soul-searching they've done is to determine what they must have done wrong to get caught.
The lesson was not; "damn, that Nixon fuckstick was a fucking monster"
The lesson was; "we're better off if we worship the monster".
The changes made after Watergate were not good enough.
Those rules never considered that we'd have a party that said; "what Nixon did was perfectly fine".
The Retrumplican Party needs to be fucking destroyed.
