The Women of Maine vs. Susan Collins

The senior senator faces an especially difficult reelection challenge. Did she change or did her voters?

ALFRED, Maine—Earlier this spring, Heidi Sampson, a Maine state representative, and I were both rushing between town meetings, that iconic form of New England government for which communities assemble to vote on hundreds of issues ranging from Independence Day fireworks to costly infrastructure projects.

Sampson, a registered Republican who thinks of herself as a conservative libertarian, told me I could expect to hear her constituents, many of whom are elderly, press her on VA benefits and Medicare coverage and access to libraries and food pantries—increasingly common concerns in a state with a poverty rate of 12 percent. But during breaks for bean suppers and chats in Grange Hall parking lots, what I kept hearing were informal referendums on the job performance of Susan Collins, Maine’s senior senator.

Sampson, who is a longtime supporter of Collins, said she wasn’t surprised. “I get phone calls from upset people. I get emails from people. Constituents will come right up and complain about Susan to my face,” she told me. “People get really emotional.”

constituents don’t receive. Only thing her loss will hurt is her ego for a minute.

I'm sure a lot of taxpayers are willing to pay her to go away.

Meanwhile, I believe she is quite wealthy already, so yes, it is her ego at play here.

Perhaps her concern should have been directed to her constituents needs rather than her own.

The author showed beaucoup plus effort in putting it together than Susan ever did about anything MF45 did. How is it possible that she's not a sure loss? Oh, right. We have the donor class in this country. Publically-financed elections and all this shit blows away. Fuck, even Republicans might find an idea or two when they're not scrambling around begging for donates. C'est degoutant.

She is far worse than I'd realized. It is like she has undergone a total transformation or has become possessed by Pod People. Does Trump have something on her as well?

Collins has moved away from her formerly alleged moderate, more independent Repub positioning since marrying lobbyist/ Repub consultant and former COS for Senator Fred Thompson, Thomas Daffron.
Daffron has extensive Russian, offshore banking, and other connections that are not "moderate".

She hasn't made a "moderate" or "independent" vote since.

See Catbyte's thread from September 2018 (Kavanaugh debacle times)

VERY interesting information on Susan Collins' husband, and Collins herself:
