General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe are going to win the whole shebang.. the Presidency, the House, the Senate.. and even some of the
state houses.. Oh there are thirty percent or so of the Turnip faithful who will howl at the moon..but we are going to win this.
And you would think things would lighten up for us a little.
Get ready my friends.. the squirrels that will be left in the house and senate and state houses.. will try and block us 24 ways of Sunday in the Courts.
And what has the senate been doing non stop for three years.. stacking the decks in the courts.
It will be interesting.. and President Biden will get about a year to get things through.. and this time, we need to keep the pressure on our senate and house to back him up.. we need to solidify things in law and not just executive actions..
And we cannot do everything and guess what, we are going to have the mess of all time to clean up.
So with that in mind.. I hope we can do this:
Solidify Obamacare
Infrastructure with a jobs program to place people who will not get their jobs back
Roll back the tax cuts for the wealthy.
Roll back the attacks on the environment by this administration.
If we can get that through.. Joe can use the next three years to rebuild our International alliances.. because they will tie everything up in the courts..
And keep an eye on the judges they have put in. So many have been subpar.

(36,747 posts)We have many programs to fund, like a new UBI program.
Minimum 45 pct tax on anyone making $1M up to $10M.
Top tax rate of 60 pct on anyone making more than $10M.
No tax on anyone making less than poverty level.
I also want national luxury item tax. A sales tax on non-essential goods.

(3,168 posts)However, its long been my belief that the vastly wealthy really dont give a shit about income tax rates. What they really care about is the capital gains tax and the estate tax, both of which need to be revised and raised. In the Clinton years, capital gains were taxed at the same rates as ordinary income, IIRC.

(15,335 posts)The wealthy can hide their income easily. Not so the the ordinary wage-earners.
The wealthy also buy much more expensive shit. Tax those purchases.

(410 posts)Financial Ingress Egress Tax System
EVERYONE PLAYS - BY THE RULES
1% going into bank [ingress] 1% leaving bank [egress] [might need to be 2 or 3% to start]
This is wall street, main street, rich, poor above poverty, Trump Properties, Amazon....EVERYONE !
No ifs or buts or kids or cars or houses.....ALL TAXING IN THE BANKING [Financial] SYSTEM.
On $50,000 income you get about $475/month by not paying anything out of pay check.
Don't spend the money [ or move to savings ] then no payments.
No we have enough in the Treasury to do SSI, Vets, Health/Wellness for all, infrastructure [bad bridges]
get the PDF at fiets.us [please get one copy and pass it around and don't kill my shared server - thanks]
Yes I did this in early 2017.

(34,092 posts)Please don't get cocky - people felt exactly the same way in 2016, and we were blessed with 4 years of Trump - in part - because we didn't respect Trump's appeal to far too many people. That appeal is still there for far too many people.

(10,667 posts)As far as 2016 is concerned, we then had the flawed Clinton and the unperceived flaws of Trump.
Ms. Toad
(34,092 posts)Led some democrats to vote for third party candidates to send a message to "president" clinton.
People already inclined to vote for a third party candidate - who would have voted for Clinton had they not been bamboozled into believing that Trump could never win - voted third party without any wrestling with their conscience at all
And - I had conversations with a number of people who planned to switch parties in the primary so they could vote for Trump to ensure an easy win for Clinton. (I don't know whether any did, or not. My spouse was one of them, but she does have memory issues and by now doesn't even remember the conversations in which I begged her to take Trump more seriously.)
We can't afford to make over the top predictions about a Biden win, unless we want history to repeat itself.
moose65
(3,168 posts)No one thought Trump could win (even him) and so a third-party vote seemed like a safe bet. That wont happen this time around. Trump is no longer an unknown quantity - weve SEEN how he behaves as President. Republicans got the shit kicked out of them in 2018 when Trump wasnt on the ballot. How much worse will it be for them this time around? Trump isnt going to win any more voters than he already had, while the younger electorate grows more diverse by the month. A little optimism is a good thing.

(28,845 posts)I did not say overconfidence. I said confidence and faith.
Confidence doesnt mean ignore the bullshit. It means what they handout we will stand up to. Faith is faith in good over evil.
Faith is in knowing you are on the right side of history.

That's the overconfidence I find terrifying, because it is virtually identical to the posts here before the election in November 2016. (And anyone even suggesting to the contrary was called a troll). I would not have commented on an independent post suggesting we need to shift our attitude. It was that it was offered supporting the same kind of over-the-top posts I saw in 2016 that triggered my comment.

(34,092 posts)But asserting that we are going to win, and win big encourages people to think that we don't need every single vote - and we do. Trump is every bit as dangerous as he was in 2016. If we treat him in 2020 as the non-threat we treated him as in 2016, history will repeat itself.

As Stalin was supposed to have said:
"Those who cast he votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything."
Or, just take it from the Republicans, themselves. They don't even try to hide it:
"We'll take care of the counting." And so they did. And so they still do.

(3,947 posts)President Donald Trump is leading Joe Biden by two points in six battlegrounds states, a new poll has found.
The latest survey by Change Research and CNBC revealed that 47 percent of likely voters in Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin would back the commander-in-chief if an election were held the same day.
By comparison, 45 percent told pollsters they would opt for former Vice President Biden. A further 4 percent said they would back a third-party candidate while 3 percent were unsure who they would back in November.
