and it will backfire terribly on him. I was immune to Reagan's much vaunted likability, but I recognize that most people weren't. Romney is thoroughly unlikable. He can't pull off a faux jocular "There you go again".
In Stephanopoulis' interview of him, MittTwit said he was tempted to use that Reagan line. While he certainly won't attempt to actually use that Reagan quote, you can be sure that his debate team is hard at work on crafting similar "zingers" in an attempt to demean and diminish the President. They think they can "Carterize" him. Good luck with that. President Obama is tougher than nails and has a natural stature and dignity that's going to be impossible for the MittTwit to put a scratch in.
Anyway, that's what I think the first debate holds in store for us.
Oh, and here's a link to the full Steffy interview- which actually wasn't half bad:

(37,161 posts)...but as an actor Regan was highly polished in presentation, plus he had Carter's debate briefing book to help map out where to hit him.
Obama is much sharper as a speaker and debater than Carter was, and attempted "zingers" should be no surprise by now. Just about every politician wants to have their own "There you go again" moment. Plus, Mitt has worn out the tolerance of the campaign press corps thanks to his Libya remarks, so very little cushion there.
Mitt has no advantages here, and if(when) he tries it's more likely to be a fiasco for him than a zinger.
